Mixed feelings for the 810BK Contego

Recently I decided to acquire my first Benchmade, which ended up being the Contego. Upon recieving it earlier this week, I was VERY impressed with the overall quality of the knife, the Axis lock, and, most important, the ergos and M4 blade steel. However, my 810 had one problem: apparently when the tang of the blade was being shaped and polished, the cutting tool/bit "skipped", causing small, wavelike indentations in the rounded end of the tang. When closing the knife you can feel a grating sensation when the Axis lock bar makes contact with this rough section of the tang. Lockup is not affected, but as of this afternoon, my Contego is on its way to the BM warranty dept. for repair. Do not take this wrong, I REALLY like this knife, just a bit irritated with this one minor issue. Anyone else experience a similar problem?

I'm sure everyone has received a dud or two in their day.. Shizz happens, Benchmade's quality control is one of the best I've seen from production companies - sometimes we just get one thats off..

The majority of my issues in the past were in regard to blade centering, besides that I try not to look too hard, it's good you sent it back, better to be happy than to stick with it and be annoyed ;)

Call Customer Service at 800-800-7427 and ask to speak to a rep. Mistakes happen this being a full production knife, but you should not worry, they'll take care of your issue.

I've had the exact same issue on a BM a while back. I just polished out the tang on some stones which fixed it up. I'm sure their customer service center will do a better job than I did though!

That's what I'm hoping for. I cannot wait for the Contego to get back home.
