My Father just gave my 12 yr old a very unique "pivoting handle" Folding Knife made by a builder named Wood, of Vinice CA. Probably built in the mid 70s in a limited production run. It's a nice piece, and still in the original plastic "tube" it was sold in. Can anyone tell me if this builder is still around, and provide any info on this knife?
Many Thanks, GREG PAGE, Nashville

I do not believ that Barry Wood is still making those knives but I could be wrong. He also made the same type for Colt, which were sold with the Colt logo and sheath in a box marked Colt. They are excellent knives with a unique design. I don't have any specific info on Wood folders in plastic tubes. Figure value is over $300 which what a Colt goes for.

Barry Wood is retired and quite elderly. His son in law is making knives (MIKE IRIE) and there is a thread below about him. They both live somewhere in Colo now. He was a engineer and made knives as a hobby. These knives are great.....I have been collecting them for many years...there are quite a few different blade shapes and models, the most collectable are the ones that he made, that say venice calif on them but the ones that mike and he collaborated on are just as good and have a lot more varieties of blade shapes and handle materials. There is an email for Mike on the thread below.

Thanks for the insight on the Wood Knife. This one is the MK1, with lovely rosewood handles and Venice CA on the blade. I don't think it's ever really been used.
Is it safe to say that I should encourage my son to carry his $29 Buck knife on our next deer hunt, and leave the Wood MK-1 safe in the dresser drawer?

If your son kills a deer and uses the Wood knife, it will make great memories. I purchased Corbet Sigman Utility Hunters for myself, my son, my godson and his father. We all deer hunt together and those knives will assist in remembering those events!

Barry Wood retired last year. His son-in-law Mike Irie did much of the work for the company for several years. Mike is on his own now. He is located in Colorado Springs. He does excellent work.
