I am considering either a MKVI or a Green Beret. Both have 5.5" blades. Any pros or cons to either one... I can't make up my mind ! Help!

What you intend to use them for would help with getting opinions.

I'm not a big fan of serrations so my choice would be the MKVI. I have a Mtn II, which is similar. Great knife and perfect size. However, I also have a 7" GB. Although it has serrations, it still has 6" of plain edge blade. On this particular knife I find the serrations useful.

As you can see I could not make up my mind either, so I bought one of each, in different sizes!

GET BOTH! :D

The only 2 CRK's I have are the MKVI and the 7" GB, the same ones you are looking at. The Green Beret is a great looking knife and feels really good in the hand, but I agree, the 7" is a little large to carry around on a day hike! The MKVI has came in handy many times.

By the way, the below thread is what convinced me to get the MK VI. Piter M took some great pics!

I think I am going to try the MKVI to start, with a Green Beret to follow in a couple of months...

Does anyone have any opinions on the leather sheath that comes with the MKVI ? is it a user ? My preference is the wrap-around style leather sheath like the one that comes with the Mountaineer II. Is it made by Gfeller Case Makers like the Sebenza sheath ?

All CRK leather sheath`s are made by Gfeller.

I have a 12 year old MK VI, and I really like the sheath as well as the sheath style (almost identical to the one they come with these days). :)

I like the one piece design, I have a mountaineer II along with a project II pe. Both make a fine general knife. My favorite is the mountaineer for the blade length is just right. I carry matches in the handle. The wind/water proof type.

anyone know if the MKVI will fit in the MountaineerII wrap-around sheath ?
