MKC vs White River Knives

I’m in the market for a new fixed blade knife. It will be kind of a do it all knife. EDC occasionally, hunting, outdoor knife. I’ve been looking into Montana Knife Company and White River Knives. I’ve been leaning towards White River Knives because they are made in Michigan, where I live.

I’m open to any input. Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with MKC knives but I have a few White River Knives. The S35VN steel they use seems to hold up very well. This is my standard camp knife lately:

And I carry this often when hiking:

First, buy local-where you are from. Then, buy from where you want to go. Either way, you're supporting small business who has big talent.

Currently have a WRK. Want a MKC.

I'm in Aksarben.

No experience with MKC. But I have a WRK model 1 in MagnaCut I got new for 150 bucks and it broke down a cow elk for me and still shaving sharp. I’m impressed with the little blade. From all the online reviews, discussion, and my personal experience have led me believe WRK is an extremely high value product. I was eyeing MKC until I found WRK and now I’m not really too interested in owning one.

Nothing wrong with MKC but I do believe their value proposition is a bit out of balance.

My opinion is pretty worthless since I haven’t owned either of those brands but I’d pick White River. Any brand that focuses so heavily on getting all the “influencers” they can to promote their brand like MKC does, makes me not interested.

Also from Aksarben, I don't have either but agree with the advice.

Of the two companies you asked about ... I have carried and used a White River M1 several years for skinning big game and use it some on small game and it's a great knife in my opinion. I've used a couple other White River and think they make good products at a decent value.

I have handled some MKC blades and they seem nice, but a bit over priced and over hyped. I have not owned or used any MKC so my view is from handling them only.

Personally when you get to that $300.00 plus territory I would look at the knife makers on here and go that route. Check out the exchange subforum here and look through past and current listings. Lots of talented makers that use quality materials and get the best out of the steels they use.

I highly recommend White River. I have an Ursus 45 and I love it. Fantastic quality and warranty. Much better value than MKC in my opinion, easier to get, and extremely high quality.
