As a regular browser of the customs for sale subforum you get to know a lot of the Makers here, they're styles, and what they typically have to offer. So, when I decided I needed a new fixed blade for my warm weather adventures this year that's where I looked.
I knew I wanted a larger knife that could handle some light chopping but also be adept at more delicate bushcrafting work. After some inquiries I was reminded of Mario's MLL brand and I checked out his website (which is very nice and kept updated btw).
The toughest part was picking a model to start with. I eventually narrowed it down to the Nervæ.
I got it in acid washed 01, ffg, with sucupira scales. OAL is 14". All of his models can me resized depending on your preference. As if the knife weren't nice enough, the leather sheath with removable dangler is EXTREMELY well built, heavy duty, and beautiful.
For a knife of its size it feels wonderfully balanced and nimble in-hand. Slices paper easily out of the box. It made quick work of a couple heavy cardboard boxes and some junked plywood that was hanging around the garage. Really looking forward to getting it out on some hiking trails in the next few weeks.
As if the knife and sheath weren't spectacular by themselves, what pushes the experience over the top is interacting with Mario Leao. Communication via email is prompt and courteous. He sends WIP pictures the whole way. Shipment from Portugal only took about 10 business days.
I can't recommend MLL knives enough. I've even gotten on the books for a second model!
