Well I would have to say that my addiction is CR knives but more in particular, Mammoth Bark Ivory CR knives and to further it down Mammoth Bark Ivory damascus knives. Decided I would take a quick pick of my new Sebenza in Mammoth Bark and did a comparison shot of the old damascus compared to the new one that CR is putting on all his new knives. The new sebenza would be "Perfect" if it retained the high contrast sheen damascus and had the Idaho Made stamp removed. Don't get me wrong I don't mind the Idaho Made on the other knives just would prefer to have it off the Mammoth Bark ones:p (Not to continue beating a dead horse here). I'm also waiting on my mammoth bark mnandi to receive it's damascus blade to complete the trifecta then I should be OK for a while:D Hope you guys enjoy the photos.

Beautiful bark on those two. The old style damascus is way better in the appearance department. What year was the sebenza made with old style damascus? Are both blades stainless?

Both blades are stainless, the top one was made in 2008 and the newest was made in March of 2011. The bark on the new seb is right up my alley with some crazy blues and plenty of it. Here are some more photos of it.

Great pictures, tan and blue color bark with cracks in it is my favorite. Did you order it direct from the factory or did you buy it from a dealer? Bark that nice would sell fast on the Internet sites.

I reserved it about 9 months ago from an online dealer, he let's me know when they come in and I buy them. It's a very healthy relationship, the definition of synergy. Thanks for the compliments by the way.

You are so right, the new style damascus and then the Idaho made.
Just send it to me - free of charge.

PS: Sorry couldn't resist. LOL

Beautiful knives! Now does the 2008 Damascus have the clear coating that I hear so much about or was that just put on the carbon steel damascus. If not, why the difference in contrast? Looking forward to seeing the Mnandi join the family.

The 2008 has the clear coating that it used to come with from the factory, I called them and asked if they could either apply the gun coating to the blade or make one for me from scratch (I would be willing to pay of course). But they told me that this is no longer an option and basically that I was SOL. The reason they gave me was that the coating once rubbed off predisposes the blade to rust in certain areas. Personally, I believe if your taking care of your knife this should not be an issue and that the consumer should be given the option. But, alas it is not company so they can do as fit whatever they like I as the consumer have the option to purchase or not to purchase. I don't believe I would have purchased the new seb if I was not so stricken by the inlay.

I agree with what you stated above. The Chris Reeve Company is excellent for customer service and they make the best knife you can buy for the money. I have also asked for special things they could do but don't offer with no results. This is not a custom knife shop and they stick to what the boss tells them to do. I do not have any problems with that because like you say the consumer has the option to purchase or not. I also had a new style damascus blade with out the coating but sold it, they just do not compare to a blade with the coating. Still a excellent purchase on the sebenza mammoth bark.

Just beautiful man. Keep me in mind if you decide to sell.
I am very disappointed in the new damascus though.

Well what stinks about all this is that I don't believe in safe queens and that I believe in using instruments for their purpose. If it's a knife it's for cutting, but now that I can't get that high contrast blade (let's say if I damaged it and wanted a replacement). I cannot get that blade replaced back to where it was. So by virtue now the high contrast damascus will most likely be carried but not used much, and the new damascus will be used a whole lot because I don't love it as much as the earlier model damascus. Thus, now it becomes the I don't care or should I say I care much less user of the bunch.

Breathtakingly Beautiful Sebenzas !!! I doubt anyone is whining about the "Idaho Made" in these pics....lol. Definitely what I consider a grail sebenza. The only thing better would be one in the old Regular Profile. I especially like the bark on the top one !!!

This is my bark collection, every day I get at least one of these knives out to admire. nyefmaker, thought you would like the LE Annual in this picture. I have had a lot of fun collection these knives, and three out of the four pictured were purchased from other forum members.

Beautiful folders in this thread! I just LOVE mammoth ivory.

(some people even accused me of being responsible for the mammoth dying out... ;))

Kind regards,

Jos

tomhalv............Thanks SO Much for sharing a pic of your beautiful Mammoth Ivory Collection. That Regular Mammoth Ivory is certainly my Grail CRK. I really like the mammoth Ivory that had alot of the White and Cream colors mixed with the Oranges and Browns. Breath Taking to say the least, definitely some of the finest Mammoth to be seen. Thanks Again !!!
