Mnandi Blade Cleanup?

Have one that's been used enough to have earned character marks. I wonder if anyone has any advise regarding scratch removal. I don't mind sending to CRK, but just want to know if there's anything I can do to save a trip. Here are close-ups of the blade sides as best I can capture the scratches.

Those look too deep to polish out already. The finish on the Mnandi looks like a belt finish although pretty fine, still think it's beyond able to correct with any manual methods like scotch brite or wet sand. Atleast I've never had the right touch anyways to correct something like that by hand.

Looks well appreciated! Flitz would be a recommendation, but I doubt it will net you the results you desire.

I know makers with belt grinders can get belts which are basically like a scotch Brite red pad on a belt. I always thought it would be way too convenient to have something like that and the skill to be able to bring a blade like that Mnandi back anytime you wanted to a nice uniform "machine satin" finish. That being said, I think it looks just fine. Nice every day carry.

I recall the "polished" blades are done on a cork wheel, IIRC.

If I had made the marks, I would wear them with pride; however, I want to start my own legacy.

Oh, well there you go. Probably take no more than 60 seconds for someone skilled with the right belt setup.

I agree, but with the emphasis on "skilled" and "right set up". I shudder to think of the atrocity that might be brought down on the gorgeous Mnandi by someone who figures they are handy with a belt sander......cringing. Myself, I'd send it in to CRK and wait it out. They do a great job on stuff like this.

With all of your Mnandis, have you sent some in for that? Do they touch it up all over? Would the standard spa treatment include fixing the scratches? I was going to call them to discuss next week, but y'all may be able to answer.

I had really good success with Flitz and a dremel tool with a polishing wheel. I use the red grinding compound for jewelry first then use the Flitz with a new polishing wheel....felt one. Make sure it does not go too fast and heat up the blade. But should polish the blade right up!

Put plenty of scratches on mine. If I wanted them polished out I would send it to CRK for a new belt finish.

That's a beautiful Mnandi!

I love knives that show their use and mileage.

That said, I say give it a spa treatment, then make some memories of your own with it. :)

Thank you. I actually boxed and shipped this morning!
