Anyone with the new style nail nick able to open it one handed? I know about the "pinch and hold" technique, but I mean with just your thumb, or your actual nail.

Also was there ever an official reason for the new nail nick, other than "to be easier to open"?

The only way I can open my new-nail-nick Mnandi one-handed is via the pinch method. The new nail nick looks more finished/attractive at least to me, but is arguably less functional. After watching ApostleP's youtube video about the new Mnandi, I maybe feel differently now. The idea that the Mnandi is about slowing down, and doing things like a gentleman (I.E. taking the extra two seconds to open the knife with both hands), has new appeal for me. I don't open my Mnandi via the pinch method any more, I try to enjoy the act of opening it with my other hand. In the end, if a one-handed knife is really what you want, there are lots of very attractive small 21s that fit the bill for a one-handed gent's knife.

I can open mine one handed, though it is harder to open the new style one handed than the older version. Just takes some practice is all.

I had the same concern when I got mine, which had the new nail nick. I found that I could very easily open it with one hand, like any modern folder.
I do have full movement and no arthritic pains, and I could imagine someone with limited dexterity could have a harder time opening it single handed though.

Its good to hear that owners do report one handed operation. Nonetheless, the mnandi is a gentleman's knife. It looks the part and I hope to be getting one in 2016.

There was a post about this, it's not the new nail nick! The new Mnandi has a bigger detent hole than the old! The poster had a side by side photo showing fit and finish (old version looked better to me) and the detent hole was definitely bigger on the new. The Mnandi is my next knife purchase and I'm having trouble finding one in Elder burl whose coloring that I like. With that in mind I'm hoping to get an old one, but knowing this I would take the new as well.

It is after all a gent's knife and about slowing down. I think of it as a modern frame locking gent's knife so the locking part is just a plus for me.

After six months of near-daily carry I can open the Mnandi just with my thumb, but not without thinking about it and positioning my hand just right. The pinch method, at first awkward, is now so natural that I do it without a thought, so that's what I use.

Gee, gentlemen like fast knives like flippers. That's why Onion invented the Eros :)

Touché! Guess I'm a slow gentleman. I like to think long about what might be in that letter before I slit open the envelope. I listen intently for that first click, then the second to indicate the Mnandi is ready, and then methodically and precisely insert the blade into the envelope paper......only to find I've also cut the contents in half.....Doh!!! :D

Because I live in Europe with very strict rules concerning one hand openers I asked Chris a few years ago if he could make a Nmandi without the nailnicks .
Not possible at that time .
It seems that the new Nmandi mod. is done to serve the European market?

That's a new one on me. But you may have something there?

Even the older Mnandis can be tricky to open one handed. It was designed to be a small, gentleman's folder that required two hands. I am sure if the Mnandi was reviewed by any European LEO, they would pass it off as the same. There is simply nothing tactical about the Mnandi. It's pure class.

I can open the new nick at least as easily as the old, but I think I do it differently than most.

There is a rumour on this forum, Lone Wolfe, that your CRK collection has become so legendary, that the knives open themselves when you glance their way :D
