Out of my collection my edc is my mnandi. This is becoming my favorite knife. I picked it up used about 5 or so years ago here. I wear a suit to work and since deciding to carry something nicer than my swiss army pocket pal I feel to appreciate the mnandi more and more. I have a a few other crks, small starbenza, small inkosi and a large 21. I was looking at a new damascus mnandi, however I heard they are harder to open. Being 6'5" I am not a small guy and I don't have tiny hands. I have no problem opening my current mnandi, I prefer opening that compared to using the thumbstud on my other crks. Granted the mnandi was used and they others while bought here weren't even broken in. That in addition to the the fact I am used to spyderco. I heard the newer mnandi is harder to open due to the nail nick being rounded. Any idea why this was done?

Also I would assume if I ordered a replacement blade from cr in damascus it would be the newer style?

Thank You,

Liquid

Hi, I've a newer style Mnandi, I'm 6'5 as well, and big hands, and no way can I open with one hand, I carry it a lot, but come to the realisation that it is definitely a two handed opener

Thanks for the input. It's crazy how they did this to the knife. It's not like I even practice opening it often.
Unlike many I don’t get too bent out of shape with CRK changes but this nail tick change does bother me. Never should have parted with my old mnandi.

I have small lady-hands, and the Mnandi is pretty much a two handed opener for me as well. If I pinch the blade between my thumb and forefinger, and use my third finger to push the handle downward, I can open it with one hand, but it's awkward.

It's a bummer--I was just coming around to the idea that maybe I need to own a Mnandi. Now I'm not so sure.

I usually don’t have a problem opening the Mnandi with one hand. But it’s designed as a two handed opener. Your personal take my vary, but don’t overlook the Mnandi. It’s an excellent knife and really grows on you.

I've always wanted a left handed Mandi, but this is the exact reason holding me back. I don't mind two handed knives, but at that point I prefer them to be slipjoints. If it locks, I want to be able to open it one handed. I'm not even sure why, but that has always been my preference.

I could never reliably open the older style one-handed so I don’t really notice much of a difference (but I do fully understand how those who were used to the old ones would take issue with the change.)

The Mnandi is much more a "one handed knife" than any slipjoint design. It's well worth grabbing a user Mnandi and fiddling with it for a few days to see what you think.

I usually use the exposed corner of the spine and jimping to push the blade open a bit, then sweep it the rest of the way.

When a decent used Minandi comes up on the exchange, and I happen to have the $$, I'll check one out. Every Chris Reeve design I've handled has totally captivated me, so I look forward to seeing this one for the first time.

The Mnandi is a gentlefolks knife, it isn't a one handed tactical super fast knife, one should never be in a hurry to open a well aged Brie or to slice off a piece of fine Salami, life's to short to hurry with a Mnandi,

I have an older Mnandi with the sharper cut-out and original clip. I have fat fingers and never had an issue with one-hand opening. I have long moved on to larger knives so this one sits in the box but it really is a great knife is you want something smaller.
