Having recently acquired a Mnandi I am now reading references regarding and old vs new style. What are the differences? When did the change take place, and is one preferred over the other? If so, why?

Just here to learn.

The OLD style all the way. The new ones you can't open one handed as the nail nick is now polished, rather than blasted like the old ones, which gave it grip. Plus, the old larger pivot helped hold the inlay in, while the smaller pivot is the size of the hole. It just looked better overall in my opinion. Its one of the few times that CRK has changed a design and went backwards in my opinion.

Can't argue with this, I'm another one that prefers the old style in just about every way.

I also prefer the old style, I do like the new clip better though.

The smoothness of the old style cannot be equaled. I also think the pivot looks better, the blade has a nicer finishing ... couple that with a nice coated damascus and that's hard to beat ... so old for me, no doubt!

I have both, 13 total, and can open either one no problem with one hand. Have another due in tomorrow!! I carry a newer model just cause I like its bark the least of all the bark ones I have-it does have the newer raindrop damascus which I don't care for as much as the older style with tighter "drops", i do prefer the smaller pivot pin, I also collect william henrys and don't care for the pivot pins in the newer models still preferring the liner locks wh's...

Thank you! That was a lucky break if I ever had one :)

I like the way the new year pivot doesn't rest on the table when you put it down. Visually, to me it looks more delicate, a bonus for the sheeple at the office.

I don't have much preference between the new and old pivot and clip, however I definitely prefer the old nail nick vs the new one.

All of the Mnandis have been long gone. My chances of owning an older beautiful mammoth/damascus Mnandi are long gone. The newer one are boring using the same ole' wood.
