Was looking at the Shoki, WH EDC, but keep comming back to the mnandi...

Any owners want to share thoughts on them or other options...

Here is the one I like with the blackwood

I have one in desert ironwood and it is my work EDC. I love the feel and function and my plans for this year are to add a damascus Mnandi.

OK- already disqualified- I am not an owner but have borrowed a friend's mnandi - does this count ?
Excellent choice BTW , currently my favourite...I will eventually pull the trigger on exactly this knife ( or perhaps a blacker wood handle of some description...damascus blade if I win some sort of lottery....*sigh*..). So , no, sorry I am not able to suggest other options as I have not seen those other knives, perhaps I can only add weight to your sixth sense that makes you keep coming back to the mnandi...

I have been carrying a small Sebenza for the last couple of years but was always looking at the Mnandi. Well, this Christmas I bought the Mnandi and have been carrying it for the last month. For me it is perfect. I drop a knife in my pocket, rather than use a clip and the Mnandi is light and small in the pocket but it feels more like a big knife when cutting with it. I wish that I had bought it much sooner.

I had four Mnandi's, and I found them a bit small for EDC (even with a suit). I eventually sold/traded them for small Sebenzas. They are, however, extremely nice knives, and if I was needing something that small in size, then that's what I'd go with.

For "dress" carry I usually use the top knife on this pic:

It's a custom slipjoint made by Ondrej "Papi" Berkus.

Sometimes I carry a William Henry B30 Gentac (I've got 2, snakewood and desert iron wood).

But as far as production small folders go, the Mnandi is the TOP. I've got 9!

Kind regards,

Jos

I had a Mnandi in mammoth ivory and it was a really beautiful piece. Well designed, perfectly assembled and excellent inlay. I think it makes an excellent "gentleman" type EDC and it is very lightweight.

As for alternatives, you may want to consider a nice slip joint. I am very partial to Case's Tony Bose collaborations, with the Norfolk in particular. They all have a level of fit and finish very similar to CRK folders but come a wide variety of patterns. They are priced in the same neighbourhood as the CRKs and perhaps a bit lower for some models. If you pay a visit to the Traditional Forum, you'll be sure to meet a ton of friendly folks who will be happy to answer any questions you may have about them. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I had an Mnandi, and the only reason I got rid of it was because it was too small for me to comfortably carry (I have huge paws). Otherwise, they are great knives. I would like to see a larger Mnandi, maybe the size of the Sebenza. That would make for a better gentlemans knife in my opinion.

I have a camel thorn that I really like. It is possibly a little expensive for what is for me a limited use knife, but when I need a good knife that won't raise eyebrows or make pockets sag, the Mnandi is a terrific choice. Even people who really can't warm up to knives seem to do well with the oh-so-refined Mnandi.

So the other one I like is this:

Damn decisions are hard....

The Sebenzas are nice but a bit bigger and or more utilitarian than I am looking for

I just sold one ...it was too darn nice to sit in my drawer.

Never saw anything close to the f/f and overall quality .
Super nice liked the ease of operation left or right .

I just tend to favor Small Sebe sized knives
Small sebe today, others = BM Sequel /Bradley Alias ll/ Ritter Mini grip
I guess I'm slow took me a while to figure this out

I love my Mnandi. Another suggestion is a Fallkniven folder. They make a smaller knife but can't remember the name of it.

I own a Fallkniven TK3
great steel wich is not only laminated but fairly thick sharp and holds a great long edge (62hrc), aswsome finish, great bone handles, ergonimics are good for edc (Tk4 as a backup EDC always with me), lockback works very well

for me it's a great choice for an edc in that lengh category

For similar suggestions, you really have to check out Klötzli. As precisely swiss-made as CR, quite high tech in design, and aiming for the Mnandi audience more than the Sebenza audience. Really very good stuff.
