Mnandi parts question

I recently acquired a used Ironwood Mnandi; it's a fine knife but it seems to be missing a spacer that holds the two scales apart at the rear of the knife. Is there such a spacer on this knife? I can gently squeeze the rear of the knife and the two scales pinch inward.

Disassemble your Mnandi and look if it has the same amount of parts in this thread is the best advice I can give. I do not own one but hope this helps

Looking at this thread I found the picture of the disassembled Mnandi with these parts:

Mnandi (parts shown from top to bottom are)
Front side handle
Top row (l~r)
- Pivot bolt
- Rear backspacer
- Pivot bushing
- Bladestop spacer
- Pivot screw cap

I removed the clip screw and clip from the knife; it's the rear backspacer that seems to be missing.

Yes there is a rear spacer
Its in the picture you posted next to the pivot with the big R on it

Thanks Rickster, the shot of your knife definitely confirms what I suspected. This part would be available for purchase through CRK, correct? If so I'll give'm a call Monday and order one.

Call "Heather" monday & they ship the same day, Small parts come in a padded envelope first class shipping for $1.23 I get stuff quite offten.

if you dont have the rear backspacer, then what is holding the slabs together at all besides the pivot and the stop pin?

He obviously still has the clip bolt and receiver attached, just no spacer.

That is correct, holding the scales together is not an issue, holding them apart is :) Looks like it will be easy enough to correct, just need the part. Anyone have an idea on what a spacer cost?

I wouldn't be surprised if they send it to you for no charge...let us know what you find out.

+1 Was thinking you could look in your spare nut-bolt parts jar
and find a temporary nut to fill in until it shows up.

That type of fix crossed my mind, would only take a small piece of copper tubing or collar of the correct inside diameter for the bolt to pass through- would have to be thin enough to provide clearance for the blade. A trip to the local hardware store would undoubtedly produce something that would work. However, I just recently received my first small Sebenza, it will just have to do until the part comes :)

Home Depot, small brass farrell for copper tubing would work perfect

Went down to the basement and scrounged around for a few minutes. Noticed a .22 casing and thought hmmmm...used a dremel and cut a small section from the casing. inside diameter is a tad large and the cuts were not perfectly square but it makes for an acceptable fix till the real spacer arrives- a .22 caliber brushed brass spacer :). There is adequate clearance for the blade tip.

Ordered the part today, was $9 shipped. The temporary fix works ok, only problem is brass is a tad soft and will compress.
