After about a year wait I finally received my Mnandi. It is a beauty, it has snakewood inlays with spirograph damascus blade. The damn thing is so pretty I'm afraid to use it! I own allot of knives but this is my first damascus blade. My question is, besides the everyday tasks like cutting string, cloth, opening envelopes etc. can I use it for cutting food without staining or discoloring the blade?

I think with reasonable use the blade shoudn't stain. The blue tinged damascus that CRK used previously would stain if exposed to citrus. If you got the blade recently from CRK, they have been coating the damascus with a clear coat that is supposed to keep the blade real nice. Rinsing after use and careful use of CRK's RIG (Rust Inhibiting Grease) will keep your damascus nice.;)

The spirograph Damascus is stainless and even without the clear coating should not stain at all with proper care. I've have never had a stainless Damascus steel that has oxodized(rusted), and I use them daily to include many Sebenza's... I have had S30v blade(s) that have rusted. Sorry kdizzog6, just a fact!

ScottDog's advise is dead on.

I just got one in African Blackwood and it has the stainless Damascus blade. As Scottdog said, they are coated and you shouldn't experience any issues at all until you manage to wear through the clear coat. Even then I would expect little more than some attenuation in the dark coloring of the etched portions as they use-polish and develop a patina over time. We're probably talking years of EDC use here . . .

Thanks for the advice everyone, very helpful.:)

if its Devin Thomas 'stainless' damascus there should not be any rusting at all.

FYI I use my mnandi on fruit too and the food has had no effects on the blade.
