The Mnandi is fast becoming my favorite CRK. The size is just right and the way it cuts is simply amazing. When I find something I like this much and use frequently, I tend to buy a second for back up (I have both regular and classic small Sebbies). Only "problem" is I think I'm going to have to shoot for TWO more Mnandis. I have a bocote inlay  and I'm thinking it would be nice to have both a darker and lighter wood for contrast to the bocote. I think I might be developing a problem...........

PW, I know what you mean. I've got an Mnandi with African Blackwood and it is my only EDC during work hours. I have found no better Gent's knife and I doubt that one exist. I also had an Mnandi with Bocote Inlay and sold it. I still regret it and may get another one before too long. You stated that you may get one with a darker wood. Let me suggest the Blackwood. To me that inlay gives the Mnandi a "classic" look that I really enjoy.

I know what you mean about the Mnandi: mine goes everywhere with me. My Sebbies have seen a lot less use in the last few months. I, too, have been thinking of getting a second Mmandi, and I've been casting lustful glances at the desert ironwood version. Very classy, at least in the pictures I've seen. I've also seen a macassar ebony version that's very nice, though darker than the ironwood model.

Decisions, decisions .....

I'm torn between the blackwood and ebony. I won't be able to swing it until later in the year (got a few other purchases to make), so I have time to consider my options.
Any suggestions for a lighter colored wood?

Another very nice alternative in dark wood is madagascar rosewood, here in a decorated version:

My suggestion for a lighter wood is desert ironwood, which gives the knive a very classic look, like here

Maybe this may help you with your descision.

I'm looking for something lighter than bocote or ironwood. That rosewood sure is nice.

Box Elder is a nicely figured lighter wood. I'm getting fonder of the Mnandi myself, I think the Desert Ironwood will be next.

To get a better idea of what box elder looks like, follow this link to a box elder Mnandi listed on the True North site: http://www.truenorthknives.com/tnk_1mainframe.htm .

Edited to add: For whatever reason, the above link doesn't go straight to the Mnandi page. Click "production knive by brand" and then "Chris Reeve knives" to look at the CRK stuff.
