CRK Mnandi w/Mammoth Ivory Bark
To my much delight I arrived home to see a package that the mail carrier had left for me. I have been on the fence about buying a Mnandi, but finally pulled the trigger last week. I decided to treat myself to something very nice after I took over a new position at work. I have been very unsure on what to get myself. I have seen photo after photo of the Mnandi’s that you fine folks had posted here. I regretted not jumping at a chance to buy a VERY nice Giraffe bone Mnandi awhile back (just wasn’t in the budget at the time). I decided I would wait until I could find a Mnandi that I thought was nice enough to pull the trigger on. Well, I think I found it.

Here she is my Mnandi with Mammoth Ivory Bark. She’s a beauty if I do say so myself. I absolutely love the finish on this knife. The Mammoth Ivory bark is stunning (sorry for the crappy pictures as my cell phone does not do this knife justice!). The Ivory bark has beautiful crème, blue, black stripes. I do believe this is the most beautiful knife that I own. This is my FIRST inlay knife from Chris Reeve, but without a doubt will NOT be my last!
The fit and finish, well I don’t think I need to go into much detail. Plain and simple, it’s a Chris Reeve knife. The fit/finish is top shelf all the way. The action is so smooth. I love the nail nick. Even with my oversized hands, I have no problem one hand opening this knife. Lock up is spot on, no blade play at all. Blade is nicely centered in the closed position

I have read about the pocket clip on the Mnandi and boy you guys aren't kidding. This truly is a work of art. So simple yet elegant! I have her in the slip case right now, as I’m worried about the first scratch (I know it’s silly but this knife is so dang nice!). Back to the clip, works very well in my suit pants pocket, jacket pocket, but I do believe if I carry the Mnandi (outside of the slip case); it’s going to be in my shirt pocket. The clip looks like a very stylish pen clip. PERFECT for carry when around the office with non-knife people are present.

The weight of the Mnandi is shocking, yes I knew how much it weighed before buying it, but to actually have it in my hands was well shocking. It honestly is going to take me some getting used to. I normally carry my Large Regular Sebenza or my Hinderer XM-18, so the Mnandi is a feather compared to these two beasts. The overall size is something that I have to get used to as I’m used to a large knife. I do believe however this will be a nice addition to my EDC.

Anyhow, sorry for the ramblings on, I’m just overjoyed with my latest purchase and thought I would share it with you good folks here.

Let me know what you think!

Thou Shalt Not Envy Thy Neighbor . . . Thou Shalt Buy His Own Mnandi and Sebenza.

I'm pretty sure that's in the Bible.

I actually scored this on EvilBay of all places. I had came into work at 3am to work on a project and was taking a break. So I typed in Mnandi and saw this knife listed. I swear, this person must of just listed it. I didn't hesitate and pulled the trigger on it. I've been wanting a Mnandi for a while now, but was waiting until A. Funds were available & B. I found just the right one.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. The wife even commented yesterday that it really looks like a nice ink pen (which I have quite a few of) in my shirt pocket.

The dang knife is scary light though, I find myself looking down to make sure it's still clipped to my shirt.

I used it for the first time yesterday to open a rebate check up that I got for buying something (I'd be damned if the first thing I slicked open was a bill with it!, LOL).

Nice score, congrats! I'm currently waiting for one with bloodwood. So many nice woods to choose from. Love the box elder, but decided on something darker. I just needed something to contrast my "Beast" knives too.

Have you ever seen a CRK Bloodwood inlay in person? Is there any way to see this Bloodwood in person before buying it? I sold my Bloodwood Mnandi precisely because it was not dark enough. Maybe we just have different ideas of what dark is. Just don't want you to be unpleasantly surprised when you get it...

It's absolutely gorgeous. 'Grats! I'm envious. My next CRK is likely gonna be a regular ivory Mnandi w/damascus blade, when they get some more damascus in (but if I'd seen the one you did online, might have pulled the trigger anyway). Sounds like you got a great deal on a beautiful knife. Not many of those out there

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it's definitely hard to tell from just pictures on web sites. I wasn't looking for REAL dark, or else I'd have looked at a different wood. Just something a little darker than the Box elder. But we'll see. Maybe it will be still too light and you'll see it show up for sale here :)

Actually, I wanted a brand new one with Lignum Vitae, but I'm having a dickens of a time trying to find one online. I'll keep looking though, as they seem to pop up every now and again at the websites of the "usual suspects."

Gotta say, they are all nice in their own way. I can see myself going Mnandi-Crazy very easily. Maybe I can fit in a therapy session for that in-between my Sebenza Group on Thursday nights and my Hinderer Anonymous meetings on Saturday!!!

Not sure about the "Thou Shalt Buy his Own Mnandi and Sebenza" being in the bible, but you're spot on with the rest. lol

I guess to put it in less provoking terms, I admire with high regards! ;)

i have a mnandi with the african blackwood inlay! It really is a piece of art! It is stunning! Probably why i havent used it. Kinda small for my taste. Think i might put it up in the exchange actually.

Oh, yeah, it's in the Apocrypha, in 2d Macabees. :D Those dudes at the Council of Nicea were wrong to leave that stuff out of the Bible, imo, as purchasing CR knives merit a couple chapters, and a Sebenza sure could come in handy to the Israelites in OT times, when God's people had all that sacrificing to do.

Think about it: a daily hard-use folder would be lighter and easier to carry than all those bulky shivs, daggers, and short swords.

Would you mind PM'ing me before you list it?;)

It's gorgeous! I'm also used to carrying a large Seb and yes it is surprisingly lighter and smaller. You mentioned yours had no blade play. I've had two recently, a box elder I sold, and my current one, a walnut inlay. Both of them had a tiny big of wiggle that could be felt by grabbing the tip and moving the blade side to side. Does yours have this?
