Just had a few questions.

Who all actually uses one? I know that Gregb does, but I haven't seen any others actually used. How does it compare to other knives regarding chopping strength etc..? In all honesty, the 2k+ price tag is in all likelyhood going to stop me from owning one, I don't think it can do anything my zilla can't but I'm fascinated by them.

Was there ever a coated blade MOAB or are they all satin? How were they released? Ganza/show only? If you have actual users, feel free to post pics/videos. I'd love to see them!

I've stuck mine in a stump and used it to section a large dead pine that fell and hit the house. It and the Zilla are neck & neck in the chopping department. I felt more comfortable using the MOAB because I'm more familiar/comfortable using a large knife versus a Khukri for chopping. The biggest problem with the MOAB was that it would occasionally bind, due to the thickness, when you got more than blade deep into the tree.

Given, there isn't much it can do that the Zilla can't, but I like my MOAB more, and it's actually the main reason I'm listing my Zilla. The MOAB just spoke to me and I couldn't talk myself out of it. I agree the price is ridiculous, but I do love it:D And at that price, how could you not use it?

As far as I know most of the MOAB's were satin, I have seen one green coated one for sale. As far as I know they were only a Knob Creek, Blade, & Ganza release. As for other user's, there was a Hog who posted a video of the MOAB chopping a coconut in half. If your ever in NC, your welcome to try out my MOAB. It's hard to describe how good it feels in hand. Balances way better than I thought it would.

The green one was from a custom order for an old-sized moab from a long time ago, the impetus for the current run. It was machined mag black canvas scales with jungle green.

The initial sales price is higher then the last round of sell off's secondary prices were. there were a few dipping into the sub 1,700 range. They tend to sit on the market for longer then other blades because of the high price range, so they are a little more likely to have significant price drops then lower near-msrp knives.

I think that if you put a really good edge on it, it would act a little more like a splitting wedge at .402" than the kz. I ended up selling mine before using it extensively for a number of reasons, mostly oppurtunity cost. nmfbm+killa zilla+boss street+shop-customized-sar5, or 1 MOAB.

Drew has some user pic's of his MOAB .... I think he might have been the first to use one .... I have held his MOAB which is coated and it feels very balanced .... not sure if his was a .40 thickness though ...

LVC's post as to what can be owned for the same money is pretty eye opening .... makes the Zilla look good VFM IMO ....

You guys were reading my mind. I was about to post a thread asking for a chop off between a Zilla and a MOAB. Nice to know someone has used both and compared them. Thanks GregB. Since they chop the same I'll keep my Zilla!

I've got the original prototype that I was able to get Jerry to sell me several years ago. It is 3/8" stock, tan coating w/ Tiger Hide Fusion handles. It is both shorter and thinner than the latest MOAB release. I started using it after dropping it out by the fountain at Blade a couple of years back. Once the coating got chipped I said, "It's a user now."

Here's a couple of pics......
