I just picked up this collection of knives that look to be old--05/1998, serial number 13. All in a laser engraved leather suede box, with original paper boxes to boot. The box says Masters of Defense, though I haven't had much luck in finding any information on MOD knives that far back. There are 5 knives in the first box, as you can see in the picture.

The second box has a Microtech Nemesis III 05/1998, with the same serial number. The retraction lever reads "A. Marfione / W. Brend Nemesis 1997 ALM Patent Pending". It came with a leather exterior, suede interior custom box.

Someone please give me a history lesson with my find! Anything would be useful to know--origins, value, etc. Thanks so much!

What you have in that box is my grail.

A search of this site will pull up some MOD threads, a couple of which I started. Main thing with MOD is to separate the original company's product, which you have, from everything after they were purchased by Blackhawk in the early 2000's I believe. The original knives are the good and desirable ones. You'll want to specify that you have 'original' ones.

Don't move quickly on the boxed set and don't let anything happen to it. You can't discuss values here but you're about to get a lot of informational posts here over the next week as people find this thread. A couple guys here worked for the original MOD in NC.

Congratulations by the way, they are great knives and you have a premier set there. Research them well. Hope the guys here find this thread right away.

Oh yeah....the Microtech's pretty good too.

The microtech is one of the most desirable M/T knives ever made. The dagger logo signifies its a marfione custom and therefore handground. But it also has walter brends name on the charging handle and therefore is a handground walter brend nemesis. And its a mirror polished which I believe is highly sought after. It is not a user. I would pamper that thing. It would to many OTF collectors be considered the Ultimate OTF grail. Or at least way up there on the list. Supposedly 95 of those nemis exist and they dont come up often.
