MOD and Microtech..Are they the same company?

Someone clarify something for me. I have read and heard several instances where someone has alluding to the fact that Microtech actually produces MOD knives, in accordance with the designers specs. Does Microtech own MOD? Do they have any afilliation whatsoever? If so, what exactly?

Nope.

Jim Ray (MOD) had Tony (MT) did the original design work and that is it. They are completely seperate companies.

You know I tried to get info one time about the MOD Razorback blade vs. the MT HALO III Blade, but there was little response. The blades are damn near identical. Same steel marked as such in exactly the same place. A blood groove on top of the MOD was about the only major difference, except of course the nick in the HALO blade where the pin holds it in the knife when retracted. Did Tony design that blade for MOD and then use it on the HALO III?

elvislives: supposedly massad ayoob of lethal force institute and american handgunner fame designed the blade on the razorback. either that or he just lends his name to it for money.

That's my point. Did Ayoob design the blade, and MT used it? Did Marfione design the blade with Ayoob? Did Marfione design the blade and, as you pointed out, Ayoob endorsed it?

Did somehow 2 blades as strikingly similar as they can be find their way into Ayoob's and Marfione's imagination simultaneously?

They are both very good knives in my opinion. I just happened to have both at one time, and compared the blades. Try it if you can, you will be amazed at the similarity.

My understanding is that MOD and Blackhawk are closer to being the same company than MOD and Microtech. MOD has very high tolerances like Microtech, but prices like Benchmade so alot of people get the illusion tha Microtech makes MOD knives. I'm suprised the MODs haven't taken off quicker.....
