MOD CQD Mark 1 saved my friends life in Iraq....

A friend of mine from basic training is in 4th BCT here in the 101st Airborne Division. They get home in March.....he and I always we're avid knife fanatics, and preferred only the best in knives. In the 3 months I've been back from Iraq, he and I communicated on our latest and greatest knife finds. He then asked me "Do you remember the MOD CQD Mark 1 which I bought a while back?"

Yes, I said.....he then told me how their MRAP rollover into a canal during a partol. The MRAP was hit by a Deep Buried IED, and it rolled over into the water. My buddy was a dismount in the back, and had his 4 point seatbelt on.....the cabin filled with water, and hit his seatbelt release; no use. It was jammed. (Lowest fucking bidders building our shit) and he immediately reached for the seatbelt cutter that the unit requires be worn on your IOTV (body armor).....to his dismay, it wasn't there. Fell out of its mollee sheath during the initial roll. So he grabbed his CQD Mark 1 from his pocket, and cut his seatbelt straps with the cutter on the handle. Freeing himself, and assisting the other 4 guys in his squad out of the MRAP. Mind you, all of this happened in a matter of seconds.....but his quick thinking helped save his, and others lives that day. I'm thankful he bought that knife.....and I now know that he is closer to coming home, and closer to him and I being able to hang out, relax, and continue to collect our knives and guns that bring us so much joy.

Thank you for you and your buddies service to our country. That M.O.D. is a keeper it has just beaome a family heirloom.

May he return home safe.

All the best,
Jason

Thanks a lot for the support guys!

Him and I mentioned saving is as an heirloom.....he's going buy another CQD Mark 1, and put the one used in the incident, in a frame. Overall, he's had his Mark 1 since month 2 of his deployment.....he said its held up pretty darn well over there, with all the sand and such....we're both Infantryman, so we use our tools for everything, from prying open a door, to opening an MRE, to cutting 550 cord, to just being crazy and having a blast with our "toys". I have heard some people talk badly about MOD knives, but ladies and gentlemen, that knife saved his life, and functioned as it should have when he needed it most. THAT, people, is what its all about. Thanks again for all your support guys.

Great story, and tell him & all the guys he's with, thanks for serving.

Big ol' pat on the back to MOD as well.

thx - cpr

Gunner,

Excellent account! God bless you, your buddy and the rest of our brothers and sisters. Before I retired I would always get questions about why we trained so much, why we were so redundant in action AND equipment. Yes, odds are that alot of things will never be needed but it's worth the extra load and inconvenience when you do to have it AND FOR IT TO WORK!!! That's the #1 trait a knife should exhibit, in my opinion. Thanks MOD for a great design execution! Kudos!!!

Make sure we get pics when he gets it "shrined" if possible. Also, he may want to send his story into the knife and military oriented rags. You know, "and there I was...".

Keep up the good fight brother!

It has been said before and I will say it again, Thanks to him and all those who go into harm's way.

It seems that the MK1 did what it was designed to do. Thanks to his quick thinking and having the right tool all was not lost.

I got a Mod Mark I and that is one beast of a knife!!!

Good job to him for serving his country!

I bet you're really happy you picked this knife!!

You should tell your friend to send his story in to Tactical Knives as they "pay the standard column rate" for their "It Happened to Me" section.

... And that's why I carry a knife... Because s#it happens.

Good tools paired with quick thinking save lives. When I was in Mosul, I carried a D/A Socom. As an infantryman, I more than (ab)used it, but PMCS'd it and it served me well. You're buddy saved some lives with his. Great to see you made it back.

Thank you guys so much for serving our great country. It is appreciated so much more than we can ever say.
Great story, and glad every one is alright.

Here ya go guys....a pic he sent me from Iraq.....

I will definitely be carrying my Mark 1 with me when I go to Afghanistan next year. MOD definitely hit the spot with this knife.....you can tell its been well-used, but its held up pretty darn well over there in the desert. My buddy said all he does is sharpen it up once a week while he's on QRF, and puts a coat of CLP on the blade, screws and the frame, wipes it down really well....this is the exact same knife that saved his and others lives:
