I just got a MOD CQD Mark 1 in a sorta trade from my friend and it was pretty much mint when I got it from him. He an I tested it a wee bit. We used the recessed support blade on pants and later I used it on cord and it excelled. It cut a strait line up a pair of pant leggs easily. It slices very well for a folder of its size. Its somewhat of a thick blade (dont have measurements on me) but it slices well. I used the blade to cut marshmellow sticks and shave wood and cut plastic, fabric, zip ties. It performed very well and its edge held up fine.

What made me really say "hay I love this knife" was the handle, it looks big and bulky but when I sarted cutting marshmallow sticks I realize it was very comfortable to use and sits in my hand nicely and I put some gloves on and it fit very well with those on as well( the size seems like it was meant for gloves). For pocket carry it is a bit large and its tip down only(I wish it was tip up as I like lanyards and a lanyard in my pocket isnt comfortable)but with the double gaurd I guess tip up would be hard. I have the manual version and the lock up is tight, it has a slight back and forth play but it doesnt bother me and if it ever does I am sure MOD will fix her up. The glass breaker next to the blade is a cool option though I dont see myself using it much, my friend did on a training scenario(USAFSP) and broke a window with it, he said it performed well and took almost no force to break the window.

Overall I really like the knife and though some do criticize the blade steel 154 cm I like the choice as its fairly easy to sharpen yet it holds its edge well and doesnt have the cost of S30V. I like the plunge lock and have complete confidence in it. I didnt think I would carry this knife much but I feel comfortable with it especially with all the driving I do I feel more prepared for an emergancy having the Mark 1 on me. If your into that style of knives I say give her a feel and see how you like it. I give it a thumbs up:thumbup:

I've been extremely happy with the MOD Tempest I was able to pick up off Ebay. I still wish I'd have had a chance to pick up that Janich blade, but I've been happy regardless.

The Tempest is a Liner lock design, but the Liner actually supports quite a bit of the blade width, which I was suprised. It almost reminds me of a frame lock, rather than a liner lock, in terms of the width of the liner support.

I haven't had any issues with its upkeep or sharpening. I'm beginning to wonder if all the MOD quality issues have been corrected, or if I just got lucky.
