Hey All, To my SURPRISE ...My Lovely Girlfriend ;) just put in my hands a Brand Spanking New MOD CQD Mark II Knife in PE. This has been a knife I've been after for quite a while. She apparently has been on a hunt for this knife to surprise me since Christmas. Well, She found it :thumbup:!!!

She walked in today for lunch, pulled my present EDC out of my cargo pocket and put in my hands the MOD and says "You Might Want To Carry This Today" with an onery little grin on her face. The look on my face ...:eek::eek::D!!!

Anyway, the question I have is "How Strong Is The Plunger Lock"??? Just thought I'd share my new knife joy. Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

MOD makes a good plunger lock... I've got one of these, and have had it for ages. I have one gripe though. On mine, when the blade is open, and the safety is engaged, the plunger can still be depressed nearly all the way...(it just barely stays out far enough to keep the blade locked open, though substantial blade play becomes possible at this point)... Have you noticed this on yours?

I have had mine for a few weeks now and use it loads, I haven't encountered any problems with either of the locks but I will admit I don't normally engage the safety...

The plunger lock on this one can be depressed about half way in with the second lock engaged and there is a little blade play. When not depressed ...Zero blade play and appears to be a SOLID LOCK-UP.

I got one in a trade from a guy in 10th Special Forces and he said that most of the guys in his unit in Afghanistan had one.....enough said.

I have a Mk I and have had it for since around 2000.
On mine the plunge lock barely moves with the safety engaged.
I do not use mine a lot though. It is just part of a EDC rotation,
and only when I desire to carry one on my belt in a sheath.
Otherwise it stays in the top dresser drawer.

I always liked the looks of the CQD series. How was the edge out the box?

I've got a CQD MK II, and a Hornet. The Hornet came reasonably sharp, but with a pretty thick edge angle so I had it professionally thinned a bit. My CQD came with the same thick adge, and a very obvious burr... I had that one reground as well.

Do you think a MK II would be a good candidate for a Krien regrind?

My Mk II is wicked sharp out of the box. I have 3 Hornets that were also wicked sharp out of the box ;).

I really like the Hornet design... It feels so natural in the hand (mine anyway) and it's a really stout knife .

The thing about the MK II and the Hornet, is that they are both born of .147 inch thick blade stock, IIRC... Very very stout, and ground for strength, more than to be incredible slicers... A Krein regrind would kinda kill either knife's soul, IMHO.
