I have finally gotten back my Duane Dieter Mark II from the company because it was being fixed from my putzing, never wrist flick one of those. I would like to give a little review of the knife. The handle is made of two pieces of solid aircraft aluminum, the blade is made of 154cm (Tempered all the way through), and it has a carbide window breaker. The blade is so sharp you don't even feel it shaving the hair off your arm. The knife is rock solid, the plunge lock adding 50 more punds of preasure to be resisted than regular knives. The knife itself fits nicely into the hand, unlike the bigger one which is a little bulky. One of the selling points, besides that it is an MOD, is that it has a system similar to the LAWKS of CRKT knives. Except this is better, because it actually "Snaps" up and "Snaps" down. Whereas on the LAWKS you just push it up and down. Since the entire blade is tempered you can sharpen the back of the blade, giving you a 3/4 dagger. You need not worry about the blade cutting you because the handle completely covers the knife blade. I haven't done any major testing, because I don't have the money to buy another one for when I ruin this one (plus I don't think I could never do anything to purposely damage my knives). The is my overall favorite knife and a great EDC, I usually carry one of my Kershaws or Spydercos to go along with it. I truely recomend this knife to anyone looking for quality, if you can save up the money to get it; just no wristflicking.

hi kershaw,

why no wristflicking? I have the big brother and I have, ahem, flicked it "a couple of times" daily ..what happens??

My knife started to wobble the day I opened it for my Birthday and I sent it back to the company to get it repaired or replaced. Five days later Jim Ray, the owner of MOD, called me personally and said, "Mr. Neaves, I am holding your knife in my hand right now and I can tell you exactly what is wrong with it. The knife has been wrist flicked." Which my brother had flicked the night I opened it. Apparently when the knife is wrist flicked the momentum and the inertia of it hitting the plunge lock mecanism causes something to go "oops" and the blade wil wobble slightly, which I was bothered why it was wobbling since the MOD is supposed to be a solid knife. So they took apart my knife and sent it back to me, but for some reason it still didn't work right and I sent it back to them again. If i am correct they gave me a new handle, but kept the same blade, otherwise it would have been to much of a loss in profits. The knife now opens easier than most of my other knives by flicking it with my thumb or opening it iwth my thumb via the thumb stud. The knife is rock solid and has no wobble whatsoever. You just can't wrist flick the thing, and if you have I would reccomend you see if it wobbles or not. If it soesn't then just don't wrist flick it again, or too much, if it does wobble contact MOD via their website and ask them just to be sure before you spen money to ship it. But if you must ship it then they will take care of it until you are satisfied, one of the best customer services that I have delt with. I am planning on getting the big brother, how does it work? Is it too bulky feeling? I held one in considering which knife I wanted the big or smaller one, but I don't remember the exact feel. Hope this helps you some. Sorry for being so wordy.

Thanks...that's helpful.

As for the bulk, that's what I find appealing about the knife! First of all, you could use it as an impact weapon (the pointy ends help), it makes it easier to deploy the knife (because you have something to "grab" onto), and I just find it to be more comfortable :)

thanks, that knife looks great.
I remeber it now, how it felt. I like the design and will definitely get me one. How does the swiss cutting thingy in the handle work? I heard it worked real nice and was easy to sharpen.

I had a CQD MkII once that had some top to bottom blade play. I called them up, and they interrupted me mid-explanation, told me to send it back to them, and they WOULD take care of it. when asked about return postage, they said do not send any, they sent out a defective knife, it was their problem, a week later, IF that long I was holding a brand spankin' one in my hand. Can't imagine ANYONE beating that for customer service.

I have both the large and small CQD folders. My favorite knives. I have a lot of folders, but these guys get to go along for the ride most often. Especially the MKii covert, as its smaller for when wearing dress pants. But the large one is the "knife". They are my favorite tactical folders. The plunge lock and added lockout switch, plus the side hilts built into the knife just inspire such confidence. On the large CQD Its also possible to lock the blade closed when you fear you might be at risk of taking a tumble, as in climbing, cycling etc.

MOD has decent designs. Three things prevent them from being better sellers.

1- The over-the-top tactical look. It screams Blactical

2- The blades are too damn small.

3- The writimg on the side of the blade could qualify as light reading. I mean Jesus Crist do we need the persons life history on the side of my knife?

Yep all those negatives and yet the CQD's are my favorites. Until somebody else comes up with a better lock and a knife with side hilts and a better protective coating that is non black, these are the knives for me. Blades too small? 3.3 inch is just fine. and on the big one 3.75 is better yet. All I need and small enough to keep legal in the less than 4 inches law area. The carbide strikers can scribe on anything and break glass in a heartbeat if needed. Removeable if you dont need it.
I like the fact that they fill your hand and give you some real purchase. Also its just so unlikely with these knives that your hands will slip up onto the blade during a hard thrust, or that you could accidentally close the blade, that I just feel 100000percent safer than with any other folder. This is only true for the CQD folders MKii and MK1. The rest of their knives I like but are more like a microtech liner lock in nature. Solid but still liner locks. The plunge lock is a whole different ball game.
