I have not because I'm all about traditionals these days, but the kwik studd is a common accessory for the Buck 110 and the knives it inspired.

It slides onto the spine of the knife and locks down with a set screw.

Does anyone have experience trying this on a Buck 501 (Squire)?
 
The Kwik Stud people also make the Kwik Thumb Bar, which is a somewhat like the old "Flicket" models. It might work better on some knives depending on preference. I've used the stud version on larger folders, and it's no trouble at all once you figure out where your thumb wants it to be. You might wind up with a small amount of discoloration under were the stud sits if you leave it on for a long time though.
