I have a MOD AFTK. It is the only MOD I have handled, so I can only speak for it.
The action was VERY gritty. I tried lube and it didn't help. I opened the knife up and found that the ball baring was very rough. It was poorly made and had flat spots. I simply removed it.
Now the knife does not detent closed. But it stays closed just fine and opens VERY smooth.
I really like the handle shape. Very ergonomic and secure in every grip.
Their button lock works well. Seems very strong and opens and closes much faster and smoother than any Axis lock.
However, I have not seen another knife come with a flat-spotted ball baring. If Maxam can use round ball barings, why can't MOD?
Also, the screws strip very easily. You can barely tighten them. So I can no longer take my knife apart (easily) since the screws are all ****ed up. Very cheap screws.
No excuse for the crappy ball baring and screws. However, the knife is sharp, feels great, and opens and closes like butter (without the ball baring). So while I had to mess with it to get it right, it is a great knife.
I like that the blade is fairly thick for its relatively small size.
I am sure they would have fixed or replaced the knife, but I didn't want to go through the time and effort to send it in when it should have been right in the first place.
Much like Strider, they are great knives if you get a good one. Try to handle before you buy rather than buying sight unseen.
As is, I am very happy with my ATFK. It is a very great design in looks and function. But it should not have left the factory with a flawed ball baring and they should use screws that actually work.
