I have been looking at these knives online and they "seem" like good knives. What's the word on the street about these? I noticed that many of these aren't sold to the public, only to military, LEO etc..? Can the normal joe get one of these? A switchblade is no problem here in Alabama, I also have a concealed carry permit. Thanks

I've got two of them, CQD and CQD Mark II. Very heavy duty, for real. Both manual, but so many of the autos are in circulation, I think 'sold to military and LEO only' is a marketing gimmick to make them sound more exclusive than they are.

I'm sold on the MOD Tempest as my edc. Have a PE comming in a trade. This will be nib and I have to tell ya the one pse that I have fits my hand like a glove. Probably the best of any knife I have ever owned. That is saying something too. I think the edgewas kind of thick on the one I own but I have now to where it is good and sharp. The quality of manufacture is on a par with microtech's. keepem sharp

How do these compare to BM? I am waiting on my first knife to come in the mail which is a BM 520. My b-day is coming up and I'm already salivating over which knife to get next.

I think my MOD CQD compares very well to my ER Nemesis, but the Nemesis seems to have a somewhat stronger blade. The Nemesis is easier to grip, too, unless you've got a real big hand. The CQD is a plunge lock, a button lock like an auto, which seems more reliable than most liner locks. I doubt any lock is significantly more reliable than the ER, though.

You are right, Masters of Defense MOD aka Blackhawk will not sell autos to civilians. You can buy them elsewhere, for example, at the store I work at, we will sell knives to ANYONE 18 or over. The only problem is, if you buy the auto and something fails, Blackhawk wont take it back to return it, unless you can get the proper ID.
