 I have purchased a CQD MK I and the muti-position kydex sheath. I am having a hard time changing the sheath into different carrying mode. Any suggestions?

It has a tek-lok for your belt. It should work like all other tek-loks as far as positions go. A tek-lok does not allow rapid change of positions, but rather allows you to make a choice of carry angles then stick with it. What problem are you having exactly? Should work like any other tec lok. If all else fails, call MOD and talk to them. They probably have a bunch there and could look at one and talk you through it.

How do you like the sheath? Thought about getting one for myself, but cant quite see how I would use it. I like folders closed and in my pockets, and would use a fixed blade if I wanted it on my belt. But it is a neat idea, if you have a use for it.

:( WEll, I place the CQD in the kydex sheath after I clean off the excess oil,the open blade carrying mode is fast and awsome! The only draw back is the scratches I got on my coating after several trials. I learned from this Blade Forum that MOD is aware of the coating problem and had switched to a different coating approximately 6 months ago. I contacted Jim Ray and is still waiting for his instructions to exchange this kydex with their leather sheath, which I think is slower but at least it protect the blade.
I agreed with you that folders are make to be carry closed and in the pocket and since this knife is not exactly a small one, a sheath is a must for a EDC.

The coating does not scratch that easy. But its unrealistic to think kydex will not scuff, and with some dirt attached to it, scratch any knife. Kydex seems to make plastic like scuff marks on blades. I looked at a Perrin fixed blade from Spyderco, and its highly polished surface was scuffed after a couple in and outs into its kydex sheath. Your knife has the newer coating on it. The coating is fine. Its the nature of kydex. Also the knife is not too big to carry in my pocket. I carry mine in my jeans pocket all the time. Maybe for thin dockers or something it might be a bit much. For those times in dress pants I carry its smaller brother, the MKII CQB. Like I said their kydex sheath is novel. But I bought both of my MOD CQB's because IMHO its plunge lock is the most bullet proof lock on any folder I have ever seen. These baby's will not close on you. But if I was to carry it open in a shath, I might as well carry a fixed blade, like my 3.5 inch blade doziers. I can even carry knives like the dozier arkansas toothpick in his IWB sheath, in my front jeans pocket, and draw it easy, as the sheath has a lip that when you press against while grasping the knife, lets it slip out of the sheath with little effort. Good luck on having a leather sheath made. Should work if done right. Lot of work to carry a folder as a fixed blade though. The stock nylon sheath is fine for closed blade carry of course.

Thank you Mike for your knowlegable info. I have made contact with MOD and they asked me to send the kydex sheath back to exchange for their leather sheath (made for CQD MK I model). The kydex went out USPS this morning and should have the leather one coming next week. MOD was very nice about the exchange and I am sure they also realize the scuff marks from the kydex. The only reason I do not like to carry this bad boy clip to the pocket is due to the clip location which IMPO sit not high enough. With a big knife and the top part heavy, if the clip was closer to the pivot the knife will be more balance while you move. I agreed with you that this knife is well made and the tact is well design. I thought of the Sebanza but I think the MOD is a little tougher.

Its cool to know they have a leather sheath for that bad boy. I know what you mean about the clip riding high. I rarely if ever clip knives in my pocket. I just let them lay in the bottom of my empty pocket. I hate having people know I have a knife. Plus sometimes I like my hand on them when it seems my hand is only in my pocket. I will however clip them in my waist band behind my belt and blouse my shirt over them at times. Good luck with yours. MOD is a first class outfit for customer service.
