On the Razorback knife, how far (inches or centimeters) does the tang go into the handle? Or, if you prefer, at what distance from the buttcap does the tang start?
And ideally, if someone has a pic of a disassembled Razorback, I would love to take a look.

Thank you.

No, I have not opened it, but:
My "magnetic" eye says about 1 1/2", back to the second screw.
BTW: one of my favorites, just beautiful.

Yeah, great knife! I haven't opened mine either, maybe I'll do that tonight and get back to you. I will say this is one of my favorites, and very underrated. You can get them fairly cheap. The blade is almost identical to the blade on the HALO III.

Double Zut, you are correct. It's doesn't extend much past that second screw.

A buddy of mine just HAD to have one a while back. He got it and oh it was the neatest thing since peanut butter. Then he noticed it wasn't all that sharp and tried to sharpen it. We ended up "ruining" the knife by thinning it down enough to be easily sharpenable. The knife is just do dang thick (IMHO).

that's funny...

A gentleman from MOD wrote this to me "The tang on the Razorback ends about 1/2 inch from the butt of the knife.
The last screw in the handle joins the handles just past where the tang
ends."

Of course the original edge is way too steep.
So: I did regrind it with Gatco/coarse diamond hone at 2x19° angle. Took me about half an hour.
Then I added a very small bevel with a sharpmaker @ 40° angle, white stone.
It cuts hair, now. A very fine piece.

Mickman, I'll take Dave's knive apart again tomorrow and let you know what we find. Since I'm working from memory, I'll admit I could be wrong. I do remember singing "M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E" over Dave's shoulder while he was taking it apart the first time. (I was making reference to my opinion of the construction and overall quality of the knife.) I'll take some pics and post them here when we are done.

Hey the4th-

I'd bet you wouldn't say that to Masood Ayoob's face

I've always taken grief for liking this knife, but it just feels right in my hand. And the thin profile makes it a great carry knife as well. 154CM with the great blood grooves and that Tanto grind like the HALO's have. I don't care who calls me names

Wow, I thought I was the only one who liked the Razorback. Nice to see I'm not alone.

I think it's often gotten a bad rap. Even the complaints about the blade being to thick to sharpen properly. Heck, it's more than sharp enough for it's intended purpose, I'm not planning on shaving with it. It's made for stabbing, levering and then coming back out. And it's easily concealable too!

It's one of the few factory knives I've kept!

Elvis, I've done more than besmirch Masaad's knife to his face.

If he remembers or cares at all, he knows that I think he's a putz. A very knowledgeable, well trained, putz who can shoot well and who I would want testifying someday for me in a justified shooting case, but a putz nonetheless.

But, my dislike for Masaad as a person has nothing to do with my dislike for his knife. They are totally separate.

The Razorback just isn't for me. It doesn't fit MY hand and IMHO there are better shivs out there. King, I understand wanting strength in stabbing, but as oversimplified as it sounds, a bigger blade leaves a bigger wound. When it comes to slashing, a metal ruler will cut you open, but a sharpened metal ruler will cut even better. And since I am from the "slashing over stabbing school" anyway, I want my knife as sharp as possible. (Actually, I'm from the "plug 'em with the Kimber" school, but I can't carry a gun all the time.

I'll get the pics posted around 21:30 or after on 4-7-2000.

Talk to y'all later!

Here it is, I didn't measure the actual distance into the tang, but as you can see, it doesn't go in far. It's held in with 4 scews though. Shouldn't be going anywhere.

Now everyone say "thank you" to Dave

the4th, you're a real stand up guy!!

Thanks a lot, you were right.
I think I'll get a Boker Specialist instead, assuming I like how it handles.

Again, thanks for the effort!

The Boker at least has an edge that's good for mundane cutting chores, though there are few jurisdictions where a civilian can legally carry a concealed fixed blade as a defensive weapon, and I suspect that most of those are places where you probably don't need one. There are more places where you can arrange to lawfully carry a gun.

The Razorback, because it seems to be expressly designed as a stabbing and killing weapon, says to authorities in most places, "This is a bad guy's knife!" I wonder what that would do to what would have otherwise been a pretty good "self defense" case.

"Thanks Dave"

I agree 4th. The razorback is a little to specialized as a "poker". Even though I like it, I wouldn't carry it, though I wouldn't feal defensless if it's all I had either.
I also am from the slashing school and prefer a little bigger and sharper blade.

That said, I still like it!! Just one of those things I guess!

Ooooops......double tap!

Mickman, why not go for a Coldsteel Safekeeper? It is more compact, would leave a wide wound channel, great grip retention, double or single edge and the most leverage you can get for thrusting, period,
Hey did you know you have a first class Fillipino martial arts instructor in your town? He teaches classes out of the YWCA his name is Alan Mclucky. I wish he was closer to where I live, he is excellent with weapons and striking.

Push-knives have their advantages..yes..

Thanks for telling me about that Martial Arts guy..
