My team is on manuevers this week preparing for.... Well something. Anyway our evaluation team sets up all sorts of scenarios that we have to negotiate and today was a tough one. Our patrol camp was getting hit with mortars from a bridge that was about half a mile away from us. We went out on a combat patrol to find the area and "take out the trash". We packed light. Just our usual load out for a short mission. The woods we set out to patrol was very dense, and there were tons of briars. About an hour into the patrol we were attacked by one guy who threw some grenades and ran off. Well, we chased after him and lost him in a area of thick brush. While Bravo team set up a base of fire, my team set out to flank the area we couldn't see. I am the point man on my team and am ususally very smart about the areas where I take my team, but there was no nice way of getting into the area where this guy was held up. About 10 feet into the thick briars and brush he popped up and we took him as an enemy EPW without too much struggle. I was releaved that we didn't have to go too far into the brush and attempeted to retrograde out of the brush while the EPW team searched the guy. I found myself so tied and hung up in the briars that I couldn't move. There were a few across my face and throat as well as all tangled within my clothes. I didn't panic, but instead pulled out my MOD CQD. I didn't even open the blade, but used the seatbelt cutter to rip apart all the briars that were hanging me up. I was impressed beyond speach with the performance of this knife. It saved me and I didin't even open it. I would recommend this knife to anyone. It's a bit of a brute to carry, but well worth it.
