I had been considering an Emerson Commander, but I looked at some Emmerson knives this weekend and was shocked at the roughness of their fit and finish.

I have been taking a close look at MOD knives and am tryig to choose between those 3 models, Tempest, Trident and Hornet. Any advise?

How do they comepare quality wise with Microtech? Is the locking mechanism as strong? etc. etc.?

Thanks guys N'Gals,

Ben

Bennett, I have handled both and am very pleased with Emerson & MOD. For a daily carry piece, I think I would want to go with MOD, especially the auto. The lock-up on them is extremely tight and solid. So far I have not had one customer complain yet about the MOD's they have ourchased from me.
As far as which model, Trident, Tempest, Hornet.............tuff one there to answer. The Hornet would be the smallest of the 3 and might compare to a MT Mini-Socom, except with a more beefier handle and blade. The Trident & Tempest are very close to the same size with diffeent blade styles. If you need further answers, don't hesitate to email me. I do not have my MOD's listed on my website, but do have several autos in stock.

Since autos are illegal here in California, you might want something you can carry.

The Commander is a well made knife and capable of doing all the heavy duty work you might need to do but if finish and appearance as as important as they seem to be to you, I think you would be happier with the MOD line.

As Mike said the Hornet is a smallish knife and it has a bit narrower handle than the Tempest or Trident.

Personally, I like the Trident as it has a heavier blade and appears to be stronger. I think that is more of a preception thing though as either one would stand up very well under all but the heaviest abuse.

That particular blade style and shape appeals to me so that would be my choice. Yours may be different.

What you need to do is handle the different models. The one that feels best in your hand will be the one you should buy, since they all will perform about the same.

You could do a lot worse than MOD. They are good knives. If you want to carry it legally out here, though, you need to go with a manual version.

Hello!

Just felt that i had to tell how much i LOVE my Emerson Commander, i got two of'em and just can't stop carry...
Got a MOD Hornet (manual) and like it a lot, one very sturdy folder, but a bit on the small side.
Emersons might feel rough when compared to MT/MOD or other but boy, do they perform

I highly recommend it! get both...

I'm playing with my trident. Traded a cqc7 for it. glad I did AWESOME knife. Microtech quality. Hell, the clip, screws, handle insert, and handle material are all the same as the Socom. Get one. Emersons are crude for the $
