Hi all,
I've thus far only handled/owned Spydercos (great!), SOGs + Emersons. I have read the past threads on MOD Janich Tempest MA. Unfortunately I do really like the blade shape (the grinds are somewhat like Snody's folders, which I would like but is never available:grumpy: ) so I'm taking a look again at the Tempest but would like comments/advice before proceeding.
I'm troubled by a lot of past feedback / comments about the Tempest's linerlock failing the spinewhack test and other general comments about the lock failing. However, some of these comments were way back in 1999/2000 and in one thread, it was mentioned that Jim Ray had promised that in the new knives, the problem would have been resolved.
(1) is the Tempest's linerlock really secure, esp for later models - 2001/2002?
(2) how is the sharpness of the knife out of the box? is it comparable to MT Socom Elite?
(3) what is the overall build quality / tolerances of the knife? is the opening buttery? Is it comparable to the MT Socom? is it worth the $150 price tag?
(4) any general comments about the Tempest? would the Trident be a better knife (I am quite interested in the 2/3 serrated as I will be using the knife more as a "survival" blade, rather than an EDC).
(5) what is the best place (read:cheap n reliable) to get the Tempest online?
(6) lastly, does anyone mind selling theirs - Trident, Tempest or MT Socom !(as long as excellent condition, with factory edge + blade - I don't mind minor scratches / signs of use on clip etc)
Thanks,
Spyken
