MOD Trident/Hornet or MT Socom

I have a MOD Tempest and it's an excellent knife. The 154CM blade stays sharp really well. Also, the black blade coating is really tough. Originally, I wanted one with no coating but couldin't find one so I got the coated blade. It does not have any scratches or marks in it at all after cutting cardboard and many other tough materials. One time, I was trying to pry a staple out of the end of a 2"x4". I was pushing and trying to get the blade tip under the staple but it slipped and I scraped the side of the blade along the top of the staple. Surprisingly, you can hardly see the mark where the staple rubbed on the blade! An excellent knife and the toughest coating I've ever experienced!

I have owned all three at one time or another. I currently own a Microtech mini SOCOM Elite manual action and a manual action MOD Hornet. I like the size and feel of the Hornet. I have always felt that MOD knives were like upscale Microtechs.
The new MT mini SOCOM Elite is tough to beat. It's a touch larger than the Hornet but weighs less. Also, the framelock feature is awesome.
The MOD Trident was never my favorite but the thing I liked least about it was the size. It was a little larger than I like to carry. I'm not into the larger folders.
If you have the money you should pick up a MT mini SOCOM Elite and MOD Hornet. Start with the MT. You can find good deals. Ebay is a good place to look.

I have both and I prefer the Socom Elite. I like the satin finish, lanyard hole, and the blade length. The Hornet doesn't offer satin finishes. It has a useless "slot" instead of a lanyard hole. The blade length on the Hornet is ok, but I like the Socom's length better. :)
