If you had to choose between the two for EDC, which would it be and why. Thanks for your input.

Well first off I will have to say that I don't have a SOG Vision. I do have a MOD Trident.

The Trident is a little smaller with a 3.4 inch blade to the Vison's 3.75. The overall size of the Trident is 7.8inches to the Vison's 8.37. Steel in both blades is about the same the Trident has 154CM to the SOG ATS-34.

I have medium hands and I find the Triden't handle to be a little small/short. I love the shape of the Trident's blade makes for a great EDC knife. I think the modifed tanto style blade on the Vison is cool looking, don't know if it would be as "useful" of a blade shape as the Trident.

The lock on the Trident is about the best liner lock I've seen. It's pretty thick and it locks up great. The "axis" type lock on the Vison is very smooth and I perfer this style of lock. I just today got a SOG Pentagon Elite (BIG ONE) just because I like big folders and I found their "axis" type lock to be very smooth and a solid lock up. The pentagon is no SIFU or Cuda Maxx but so far I'm pretty impreseed.

If I had to pick one I'd go with the Vision. If I could make a suggestion, I would check out the following for EDC's in about the same price range which I think offer some better qualities:

Benchmade AFCK 806 Axis Lock - Awsome knife, D2 steel handle is comfortable and big enough to get a good grip.

Al Mar SERE, great knife, has a liner lock but is very good quality, good steel (little heavy for some) but great EDC knife.

Spyderco Military: (my next knife) Liner lock but locks up tight, big spyder hole to use to open (doesn't look pretty) but it works real well. The knife has great steel and one of the most comfortable handles out there. It is pretty light weight....awsome knife.

Just to throw into the mix the Spyderco Police G-10 version. (Not metal or carbon fiber versions---too slippery in hand)

Hope that helps just my 2 cents ....good luck

I have a MOD Trident and a SOG X-Ray Vision. I carry my trident more often. The Trident to me is a better built knife. The blade design is awesome, and the handle just feels right.

I do however think SOG makes one of the best AXIS locks, as seen in their Vision line.

Really, get both. But I think it is unfair to SOG to compare their knives to a MOD.

One thing I have to say about the SOG, it has EXCELLENT steel. The ATS-34 on my X-Ray Vision is one great blade steel. However they hardened it, they did it right. I abuse mine, and it holds its edge really well, and sharpens without a problem on my Sharpmaker.

Overall, my vote goes to the Trident. But for a Tanto, the Vision is REALLY hard to beat.SO i guess the decision is first, tanto or no tanto? then which knife. When you buy one, save up and get the other one.

I love the Trident.
I have one of the original titanium liner-lock visions, which I also really like.
I don't know about the newer SOG locking mechanism, but the locking bar mechanism (it's almost like a liner lock, but not exactly) is solid. To me this MOD is one of the strongest folders I own, I know I can count on it.
