I just recieved my MOD Trident, plain blade, bead blast finish, and it's a truly impressive piece of work.
This is the 2nd Trident I have owned. The first was about 1.5 years ago, and while the fit & finish were first rate, the lockup was a bit wobbly and the liner lock would not hold up.
My how things have changed. This time the fit & finish are still first rate, if a bit "crude" (more on that in a bit), but the lockup is rock solid.
As much as I think the spine whack is pointless, I still find myself doing it, and am happy to report that repeated whacks on the spine of the Trident did not manage to disengage the lock. I whacked from the base to the tip, using "moderate" force, for a total of about 20 whacks.
Now, the fit & finish. "crude" or "rugged" are the words that spring to mind, as compared to the fit & finish on Microtech knives, which are somewhat comparable to MOD.
By crude I mean to say they are not as finely worked...the spacing is a bit wider, and more noticeable, if you catch my meaning.
If you have handled a Microtech, you know that the traction notches on the blade spine are unobtrusive and finely worked, whereas traction notches on the MOD are more utilitarian.
This is not a bad thing at all, it's just different, and a matter of personal preference.
The only real "problem" with the Trident, and all of the knives from MOD, are the mini bios on the blade. They just scream "wannabe" and they really cheapen the knives, in my opinion.
Now, since the Trident is surely going to be a user for me, I will just polish off the mini bio, but it's still annoying.
