So I haven't done any Becker mods in a while so today I thought I'd get out and finish up a BK-14 I stripped a while back.
Nothing fancy, didn't even worry about getting all the grind marks out. Just wanted to make it cool and functional.
Heres the break down of what happened to this guy:
First off, he was ground from the factory with a little more stubby point than what was supposed to be on a 14. So right there is a perfect reason for me to mod it.
I stripped and etched this one way back in my Stripping how to thread and really haven't done much since.
I did selectively choose what parts to etch on this one, if you all remember, I used finger nail polish to block off what I didn't want etched.
Also the knife was ground down on top of the spine to make it a little more pointy and also to bring the tip down just a hair since it was ground up to high form the factory.
You all remember how I got a couple sets of ESEE Izula G-10 a while back right? Well I wanted to put them on this knife so I rounded all the edges down so it would feel better since the tang stuck out farther than the scales.
And let me tell you, it feels amazing. I also made a new Kydex insert so I could center the scales like I wanted. The only other thing I may do is drill the lanyard hole a little larger later on. Not sure yet.
Anyway, I also modded the finger guard and choil area and moved it up more towards the blade. My finger now has more room to choke up and I can actually get all four fingers on the handle.
Then I added some Jimping for my thumb. I really do love Jimping. I know some of you have it. lol
I think it came out real nice. I did it all by hand with my diamond needle files and did a more squared off style.
Next I decided to add a little jimping on the tip for better control when skinning poor little animals and maybe useful for other tasks too.
I Made up a nice little patter and it is small grooves but damn are they grippy. I made them almost twice as aggressive when you press towards the tip than when you are pulling back. I am super happy with how these came out.
Gonna put some just like it on my Candiru and a few other knives for sure.
And last, I just forced a quick patina with some hot apple cider vinegar and some hot sauce. Nothing special, just something to give it a little protection from rust and a little character.
These pics aren't great since it was dark so I will try and get some better ones tomorrow and post them up.
Enjoy!
