Well I had some free time today so I thought I would make some changes to the old 14.

I've been using a 24 as my EDC for a long time. I wanted to change this 14 to be shorter and open boxes better. For some reason I find myself opening boxes all the time. For work and stuff I get in the mail. As unexciting as that is, thats what I use my EDC blade for the most. So I thought a box cutter shape would work better.

I messed up a bit and didn't make the angle as sharp as I wanted (but I blame that on the whisky). oh well, It works great so I'm happy with it.

I also took out some metal in the handle for a better "grip". Not sure it really made a big difference but I like anyway.

here's the snag. The missing metal makes it really lose in the sheath. It still fits and locks in, but pops out with little effort. I really should have been smart enough to know that it wouldn't fit after I took the handle in. I blame that on the whisky as well.

anyone one here know if the newer sheath with the locking hinge thing would make it work??

I don't know about the sheath, but I know I like the looks of your mod. Well done.

It is unique, I'll give you that. I always gravitate to a larger blade than handle but it looks like you got one hell of a box cutter

I like it! A small section of PVC pipe heated and flattened around that Blade would make a decent sheath. You can shape it to a necker or pocket sheath.
Nice work!

To correct the sheath retention, try using a heat gun and slowly mod the sheath. Try not to go too far :)

don't have a heat gun.

do you think i could just throw it in the oven for a bit?

im not sure the sheath is actual kydex, so it might just melt if I do that.

anyone know if the sheath is a thermoplastic?

Nice mod!

I have really started to enjoy using the chopped Wharncliff style knives.

And a blow dryer should do the trick since you don't have a heat gun. Just may take a little longer to get it heated to bendable temps.

Dex I will forever be drooling over that bk9 you did the wharncliff mod to. It is amazing!

Also on a side note, I really need to get me a park'd bk4.

Well, now that you mention it...
I use this on pretty much a daily basis. It's holding up very well.
Really nice work Dex, this is my favorite Blade!

And ditto on that 4. Hope to have that happen sometime this fall after all the vacation stuff is done and I can spare some dough.

Hmm I'm going to be honest, I love the 24, (not dissimilar to the 14) everything about it - it and the 16 are my two favourites - I honestly don't know whether to like or dislike the mod.

Walking away scratching my head..

Still great work though.

Hey KnifeJunkie......

Hmmmmm..... Reminds me of an overgrown version of an old Cammillus blade..... They sold tens of thousands of them to industrial customers..... Please, Let us know how it uses.........

Have a great Fourth......

Ethan

Seems as though doing this to a bk16 might be a great way to maintain some additional blade length too - as for the sheath, custom kydex is your best bet in my opinion

The more I look at it the more I like it. I just can't see myself doing it to a perfectly good 14, but if I ever snap a tip, I'll do exactly this without hesitation. Put her to work and report back with pics!
