Modded my CRK Nyala

Hi guys. Just did some mods to my favorite fixed blade, the CRK Nyala. I’ve had my Nyala for a few months now, and I’ve been using it as a hunting, fishing, and camp knife. It has always performed exceedingly well. I have never been crazy about the brown canvas micarta scales that came from the CRK, so I had Rival make some beautiful layered carbon fiber scales. He did an amazing job and they look stunning on the knife. He also made me the lanyard pictured, which I love. My blade was showing some serious scratches from a dirty sheath so I stonewashed them to a finish similar to what you would see on a Hinderer. It is a much more aggressive stonewash than CRK uses and It looks great on the knife in my opinion. I then reprofiled the edges to 18 degrees with my W.E.P.S and took it to a mirror polish. That’s it for now!

I just bought one off of the forum and I love it, great knife indeed.

I'm not a fan of the brown either and that cf looks great on yours, you've really got me thinking with those pics.

Thanks for sharing.

That looks great. The nyala is most likely going to be my next fixed blade purchase.

Just wondering if the handle is skeletonized?

It's a great upgrade. There's been very little posted about scale swaps on the Nyala. Maybe you'll get something started!

I like Brown micarta, but like your CF even more. The blade looks great as well.

It almost looks like a different knife. I quite like that but I'm not a fan of the layerd CF to be honest I much prefer the solid CF. I have seen a couple Nyala with G-10 and different woods but it's nice to see some carbon fiber too, it suits the knife well. :)

I love the look of the original scales, but your Nyala turned out very nice looking. It's a knife to be proud of to be sure.

Very nice work --> a new knife!
Was it difficult to remove the orig scales?
How are the new scales fasten to the blade.
TIA

Nice job! Amazing how the simple change of handle material alters its appearance from a more traditional look to modern. IMO at least

Looks amazing!

I too dislike the brown scales, even a dyed black stock scale makes it look 100% better.

I've been on the fence for a Nyala for quite some time, I did get to handle one at a shop on my trip to Az, and it feels great,
I think this thread might just push me over to get one and get some custom scales for it.

I have no complaints about the original scales, but your mod looks awesome. I love my Nyala--can't wait for deer season so I have an excuse to wear it all the time. It's one of those rare knives that has just keeps growing in my esteem. Usually it's the other way around...

Massive improvement. Not a fan of the brown either-so much so that I dyed mine black.
