Hi Guys...

Thought I would post some pics of my latest attempt at pimpage:D

First I have to say...I have a new found respect for all knife pimpers, modders, and especially makers..whewww..this turned out to be more work than I thought it would be..but alas, it is a labor of love:). I'm sure w/ some proper tools this would be a little easier...this was done w/ a dremel and hand drill.
This is my first attempt at completely building a new handle scale from scrap material. I'm pretty happy with the outcome, but I've learned a few in process things that should make it go easier the next time around.
I love the Storm II, I think its one of the best "bang for the buck" folders on the market. Only problem I had with it that is was heavy, and a bit thin. So I tried building a new non-lock side handle scale. This one is made of Black Paper Micarta(I Will not be using this again, seemed way to hard to work with) So I'll probably be getting some G10 in the future for these type of things.
Well..I'll shut up now and post some pics. Thanks for letting me ramble and share my feeble attempts at knife pimpage. Feedback welcomed..good or bad:thumbup:

Thanks guys!

As somebody who has never made knife scales... let me say that looks pretty nice!

Yeap darn fine job !

Questions -

What was the major pain with that micarta ?

does it feel flimsy without the steel backing it up ?

Do you notice any blade play after reassembly ?

Does it flip easy or is it sorta hard to flip compared to the Groove ? ( before and after modding )

I modded my Storm the other night as well , but I'm still trying to like the knife as much as my other Kershaws. :D

lastly , if you want I can send you a piece of black G10 ( bgi enough for a scale or so ) and you can try your hand at working that , I thought working G10 was sorta easy but I'm real paranoid about the dust it makes when you sand it.

Very nice, JP!

I like it a lot. G-10 is great stuff, but I've always been more fond of Micarta, so you're scale is right up my alley.

The storm is one of the few Kershaws that I've never felt needed to be in my collection, but your version would change that for sure:D

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks for all the positive comments guys..I really appreciate them!

rebeltf....

The micarta was a bitch to cut(but all I had was a little hand saw, I'm sure it would be no problem w/ a band saw), the stuff was really hard to work and a mess. It grinded fairly easy, but was very dusty. I'm sure this is just the nature of the material, I just thought every thing that I grinded that was G10 just seemed to work better.

Nope..doesnt feel flimsy at all. The knife still feels very solid and very lightweight..so in that respect, I'm very pleased.

Zero blade play

Flips just as easy as before, just a little wrist flick required as before.

I'd love to see what you've done w/ yours...post pics please!

Your offer on the G10 is extremely generous and I will take you up on it! I'll shoot you a pm or email today.
Thank You!

As far as the dust..I always where a mask when working this type of stuff! I usually just use one of those 7.00 or so dust masks w/ a small respirator on them from the hardware store. I'm gonna get a full blown dusk mask soon..this stuff is toxic to breath, you should be wearing a mask as well if your not.

Guys, thanks for all the positive comments...means a lot to me!

EDIT: Email Sent rebeltf..again, thank you very much!

hey rebel, did you ever post that thread of your modified storm 2?

No not yet. It did turn out sorta neat looking , almost like a greyish camo or something.

I will do the pics soon , if my camera wasn't such a pita to use I'd be more of a photog. :D

One of my favorite mods , especialy on framelocks is marrying the lock to the ( cant think of proper term ) place on the blade where it would lock , if that makes sense...:D I like a perfect lineup and a satisfying click , but I can never take a picture that close up and have it not come out blurry. :p
