Has anyone skeletonized the liner or replaced it with titanium or carbon fiber? I was looking at my knife today and was trying to figure out how to lighten it up a little. I have a partial sheet of titanium as well as a partial sheet of carbon/kevlar weave sheet I though about using to replace the steel liner. I done this on a CRKT Lightfoot and it made a huge difference in the overall thickness and weight of the knife. With the ZT I'd be leaving the G10 alone and only messing with the liner itself. If this has been covered and I overlooked it I will apologize as the amount of information on here is overwhelming, that’s a good thing though!

I've never heard of anyone doing it but yes its a very plausible idea that wouldn't be too hard. It wouldn't make it a ton lighter but it would help a little. I sold my 301 a while back so I'm not sure but I believe the steel liner was solid. If thats the case you could take the liner out and drill holes in it to lighten it up. Many custom and production makers do this and it really helps.

Yep the steel liner is solid and I'm thinking instead of cutting the factory liner I'll just cut out a titanium liner and skeletonize it. I have carbon fiber sheet the same thickness of the titanium that I have as well and kicked around the idea of maybe even doing a liner in it as well and leave it solid. I'm thinking that the combination of a carbon fiber sheet liner and the G10 scale would be plenty rigid enough for daily use. When I get around to doing this I'll weigh the factory liner and also do weights on the other liners as well for reference.
