Well Christmas is coming up just around the corner and instead of putting in the money for a ColdSteel Pipe Hawk(which ill problably order later) or a nice Wetterlings I decided to start my own project. I have a hatchet that was bought for me by my grandmother five years ago and honestly I never really liked it because its profile makes it a lousy splitter and the grind a lousy chopper. What I've decided to do is change the edge do a nice skandy or convex edge. Take out the polymer handle that it currently has and replace it with an american hickory one. Also I want to make a nice leather sheath to cover the edge because while a sock does get it done I really want to be able to carry the hatcheton my belt.
If you have any ideas for this project or any knowhow you would like to explain for me i would greatly appreciate it. And if any of you more experienced guys out there could tell me if you can fit a hatchet onto a stick similar to the way you do a tomahawk using tension to keep the blade on, or do you have to set it up like an axe?
