Has anyone modified a Buck Phenolic fixed blade handel with a file or Dremel ?
Lol , I'm betting someone here has . :D I just got home after a six month stay in the Palo Alto Ca. V.A. Hospital and thinking about trying this while recuperating.
Any photo's would be cool .

Welcome back!!! Glad you're recuperating.

What kind of mod? Checkering? Scrimshaw? Inserts?

Thanks , I'm thinking about doing some turquise inlays in a Buck 119 handle . Wondering how difficult this material maybe to work with ?

I've been reading here for many years and I don't remember anybody doing that as a home project.
Buck has released some with inlays, but home projects must be rare. I searched and found nothing.
Recently Photobucket removed thousands of pictures, so if there were any they're probably gone.
I figure somebody here has tried it, though--and they'll be along to share their adventures.
:)

Sky,

Wish you would have said something here about your stay in Palo Alto as it's only about an hour from me. I would have come to visit you there, hope all is well now!

There was a guy on the big auction site that was doing a lot of inlay work and some of it was on the phenolic handles.

Wow it would have been fun to had a visit while I was there. Six months was a long time and I have many interesting stories of my time there, they saved my life. Nice album JB.
I have an idea , the inlay material , tools and time and that is a dangerous combination . :)

Interesting question, Horse in the Sky. Apparently, it can be done, but I don't recall ever seeing an inlay in Phenolic, except from Buck.

You'll remember I told you that PhotoBucket had deleted thousands of pictures here.......and right after that (in post #5) we lost three out of four.
That's one of the changes since you took your medical leave. The photo situation has been turned upside down and shaken.

I deleted the pictures. Photobucket did not.I forgot when removed from pb they dissapear from the forums.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah Makael all my photos are on Photobucket as well and I don't know how to get them back without paying they're ransom fee. Is the Buck Phenolic basically epoxy ?

Sky, glad your well and back.
Yes, it is phenolic resin with polymers, similar to bakelite. Good luck on your project. DM

I was on a dollar a month plan before they changed the terms. They are honoring that until Dec 31st 2018. If I remember right. I deleted the photo's to make room and not have to flip thru 60 pages to find a picture. Works fine but will eventually have to start taking pics with the corrected size and download onto my pc. Seems easy enough.

I have to try to download my PB photo's somehow. Lol, I should have known anything free like PB was will become very costly in the end.

Yes, we will be there. The show is Oct. 21-22. Set up is on the 20th and that's when we bring my dog. DM
