Stripped coating (done a long time ago) forced patina
Cut finger choil for detail work
reprofiled edge

Going to add the micarta scales when I can
Sorry about pic quality-bad phone cam
Opinions would be appreciated.

Nice work. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a modded Brute. BTW, welcome to the forum.

Thanks Warrior.
I guess most feel moding reduces value, and i'm sure thats true.
I'd never sell this knife so I made it my own, and more usable.
I've actually been on forum for sometime, just not very active.
Also, are you on BCUSA forum? Somebody there has exact same avatar.

Warrior is everywhere!!! :D
Congrats on the mods. It looks great! How many Becker's do you own? The Brute is on my dream team list but still a long way off I think.

This was my first. Had a bk2 but didn't work for me so i sold it to a buddy, got a BHK Bushcrafter.
Currently negotiating a deal ( I hope) for an 11, after I get that, my wish list is 3,7 and 9.

Looks good  and as warrior said, I've never seen someone mod a brute before. IMO modding your blades only decreases value if you plan to sell it otherwise its just increasing personal value for yourself. When your on the hunt for more Beckers I'd suggest getting a 16, 17 or 15 too.

I lied! My first Becker was "The Joy of Cooking", its also my biggest user!!!

Nice looking knife!
I really like the choil.
You'll love the 11! It's a sweet little knife.

How does the forward weight of the Brute feel when choking up doing detail work?
Does it feel clumsy and awkward or does it feel OK?

It's really not too bad. I think because the scales are so big and fill my hand well, it makes controling the tip easier. That said for anything more than camp chores as stated above I usually go to my BHK Bushcrafter. But the choil has made the knife about 50% more usefull than before. I dont need anything other than this knife for site setup.

Maybe I'm "needy", but I was really hoping for some respected Beckerhead opinions on my mods. I figured evryone would tell me I was crazy for taking the dremel to a Brute, but not a whole lot of opinions out there. Help a brother out... Please

Since no respected Beckerheads have answered yet, I'll give you my opinion. :D It is your knife, so you can modify it as you like to suit your purposes. It's not like it is the only one in existence or extremely rare. I choked up on my Brute and can see that the choil would help a great deal for detail work. The jimping on the spine and squaring for fire steel would help it to be a do-it-all knife. Along with a BK-11 or other similar sized knife, you should have the tools for almost any situation. So much depends on personal needs or desires. What is good for some one else may not be good for you. Have fun with it. In time you may decide you need something else for what you want to do or you may decide what you have is all you need.

Ray, true on that. I don't know about respected but I am a Beckerhead and have an opinion so.... :)

as far as mods, i have only stripped, patina'd, put new scales and sheaths on some of my knives. I haven't actually added choils, de ramped or anything like that. If i had a "new" Brute i honestly don't think i could mod it like you have (even if i had the skill to do so). However, if it was a used one and/or I didn't plan on parting with it, then I would do whatever i wanted to it as to make it my own. All the things you have done (choil, jimping, squared, patina) seem like they are only going to benefit you and serve your needs while out in the woods, actually using the knife, so more power to you. I've never actually handled a Brute but it seems like a solid knife. I have seen detailed work done with some larger Beckers (Patrol Machete, Machax etc.) so the choil and jimping should work out good in that respect.
