So I LOVE my ESEE 5, but I'm kinda getting into this whole knife game. So I decided to give her a face lift.

Started with a basic 5

Wanted a choil, so I added one....Wanted a new finish, so I striped it too

Factory metal looked like crap, so sand and sand and sand and sand...

After I cut the stippling down I decided to change the shape to more aggressive and longer for use with the choil.

Wanted to give it some character so I did some file work on the spine (I know it's not the best, but hey I only had so long)

Put a patina on the top side of the blade.....Polish/clean blade after getting it dirty.... install grips.

wow, that thing looks slick. I like everything you did.

May I ask how you created the choil? I want to add one to my 0561 and have been pondering the possibilitys.

Thanks man! Looks awesome!

Thanks man, I used multiple things to get it just right, but got the big chunks out with a carbide bit cutter and Dremel so it wouldn't overheat, then used some files, then sand paper (from heavy to lighter). I started by using a dime and permanent marker to give me reference points and just free handed from there.

Oh and this was my first attempt at modding knives (I do guns mostly) so it's all not perfect, but I'm happy.

That looks WICKED! How did you put the patina on it? Also, what did you use to strip it?

Thanks! I used a very diluted mustard and just 5 minutes of sit time. I used Kleen strip and let sit for 20 min 2 times.

Hey thanks for the response!

That was generally what I was thinkin'. Cut a chunk out with the dremel then work with files just so I cant make a big mistake to quickly and keep the heat down.

I really like what you've done, I've wanted a esee 5 for awhile now. Once I do get it I will probably do some of these same mods. For your first time I think you did great!

Thanks again for responding!

NP, I do want my royalties for the mods though. ;)
