Hi Everyone,
I have two model 1-7 Randalls (one carbon.one stainless)with leather handles. My questions are as follows:-

The carbon one has a 3/8 inch nut,the stainless has a 5/16 nut.

Is this normal or is it some way to date the knife or show which steel is used in the blade?

Both are only about five or six years old.

Any and all help is much appreciated, thankyou.

Jay

Hi Jay, the nuts used were likely just stock on hand.

Hope that helps

Maybe it goes without mentioning, but you said you have two, one stainless and one carbon steel 1-7's.

The way you tell the difference is by the stamped "s" near the makers mark. That is you stainless knife. If you ha e a stainless without an S that would be something.

I couldn't tell if that was one of your questions, or if you knew that and asked the tang nut question as well.

To Sheldon,Thankyou for the info on the tang nut, much appreciated.I was told that the two sizes were a way to tell a stainless blade from tool steel.
I thought it was a load of rubbish simply because the blade stamp tells you which it is!
I have your book due in the mail today, cant wait!

To ron-m80,I know about the "S" stamp on the blade,my apologies for the confusion.
I was just wondering about the nut size and if it had anything to do with steel type.(like i was told).
Thankyou for your reply,much appreciated.-Jay
