I found a guy who's selling two salt water model 10's. One seven inch, and one five inch.

Now I haven't a clue about these knives. So I have a few questions about them before I make the pruchase.

He said that his father had his name engraved on them when he bought them from Randall.
Is this or has it ever been an option to have your name evgraved when purchasing directly from Randall?

And does the name engraving affect the resale value any? If so how much?

He also said he does not have the boxes or paper work for them. Now I know that the now boxes, and no paper work, will affect the resale value some. But don't know how much.

The knives and sheaths are all mint, so the engraving and not having boxes or paper work are my two best bargining chip's when we are discussing the final price. So I just wanna figure out how much the two points matter before I bring them up in the bargining process.

Any information would be of great help.
These will be my first Randall's and I just wannna make sure I dont over pay for them.

Thank you

Luke

Luke,

Yes; no; and not much (x2).

If they're a matched set, older, have a rare handle material, or any combination of the above, that may add to value...

Hope that helps, please post pics when you can...

Thank you!
Yes, both have matching handles materials. I just a little worried about the name engraving being a problem if I ever want/need to sell them down the road.

I should be picking them up this weekend. I'll post pic's when I can. ;)

Here's some of the sellers pic's.
I know they are kinda crappy but any info you can provide will help.
He assures me that they are mint but it looks like the tip on the 5" is blunted/rounded off?
I will be picking these up in person so I will be able to inspect them before I drop the cash.

I'll have better pictures once I have them in hand.

Luke, they're (very) late 70's to mid 1980's vintage, an almost matched set (logos), in the correct sheaths. Buy them. Don't sweat the name etching, any light use scratches, or even the possible snapped tip on the 5". If you're coming in around $300 to $400 you're getting a good deal - if less, even better...if more, negotiate or walk.

That's what I'd do anyway...

That's great news! Thank you

I just got off the phone with the guy, and he said that they are in fact dead mint as if they had just left the shop yesterday. :D

I'm going to pick them up tomorrow.

Super excited to say the least.
