Reposted from over at BCUSA.
Today I got up early and went out in the woods with the sole purpose of testing my new Randall 14.
Here's a comparison pic with a Becker BK7, both knives are very similar.
First up, chopping. The knife chops fine, bites deep and all that but the handle isn't very comfortable while chopping. It's not bad, but it's not great either.
Simple carving tasks. The blade is very sharp with a hollow grind, makes carving tasks easy. The top guard does rub the base of my thumb the wrong way. Going to remedy this by knocking down the edges with a dremel, buffing wheel and compound.
Next up is the fishing spear. It's the lousiest one I ever made. It's made out of twisted and knotted holly. Gotta work with what ya got. The knife did fine, even though I did bumble up pretty bad once, see the second pic for that.
One of these days my simple mistakes I apparently love making so much are gonna cost me. I need to work on being more careful.
Patched myself up and finished the spear, then onto batonning. Yep, it does fine.
Last but not least the most important task, :39: stick time. His name Cousin Ed, he's special.
Knife after all is said and done, damn, dirty knives look great.
Overall the blade is a joy to use. I do have a couple minor issues with it but one will be remedied and the other worked around. Like I said in the other thread this is the first high end knife I've ever bought myself, so it's definetly a keeper.
