I took some of the safe queens out last night and I noticed that my 15 shieth snap is locaded on the right side of the shieth (facing forward when worn on the right side) the catalog and other pictures of the 15 (A.G. Russell) shows the shieth in the 15 as snapping on the other side?? does it matter?? I have never sheithed the knife and am a righty not a lefty. Is it ambidextrus, does it matter?

It is the opposit of this: http://www.nordicknives.com/Rand-desc/R15_B.html

Robert,

Several chapters in a book on Randall knives could likely be dedicated to the 'C' model sheath alone...

Suffice it to say though that the current 'C' model sheath as produced by Sullivan's Holster Shop in Tampa, FLA. is ambidextrious, yet can be ordered in a left handed model if you'd like...

Also, each RMK sheathmaker to date has had their own preference for keeper strap orientation, so knowing which maker you're referring too will tell you in many cases whether you're looking at either a right, or left handed version by that maker...

Here are some of the 'C' model sheaths as made by the various makers over the years, in the form of a repost from another forum users group of folks interested in Randall Knives...

Hope this helps,

Shel

H.H. Heiser – Brn sheath, 8 flat rivets, Canteen strap & Brown Button snap – 1958/62
M. Johnson – Brn sheath, 8 flat rivets, Canteen strap & Brown Button snap – mid 1962
M. Johnson – Brn sheath, 7 flat rivets, Canteen strap & Brown Button snap – late 1962

M. Johnson – Brn Roughback sheath, no rivets, Baby Dot snaps – 1972 into 1985
J. Johnson – Brn Roughback sheath, Baby Dot snaps – 1985 into 1991
J. Johnson – Brn Smoothback sheath, Baby Dot snaps – 1988 thru 1991*
G. Gutcher, Sr. – Sullivan’s Baby Dot double-stitched Model 15/17/18 sheath 1986
G. Gutcher, Sr. – Sullivan’s Baby Dot standard ‘C’ Model sheaths 1986 thru 1994
G. Gutcher, Sr. – Sullivan’s Baby Dot/RMK Logo transition ‘C’ Model sheaths 1995
G. Gutcher, Sr. – Sullivan’s RMK Logo standard ‘C’ Model sheaths 1995 thru current

Factor in the left-handed versions, the black versions, the customs by Sullivan's and that 'is' a boatload...

The Jack Crider 'C' model sheath actually seems more like a modified ‘B’ Model IMO, based on the keeper strap type...

The Nordic photo BTW is of a right-handed Sullivan's 'C' model sheath...

Not sure I would get a passing grade if I was tested on this but.... Ya Gotta Love this Place... Thanks, Robert

My Airman sheath is exactly like yours, but I'm not sure if it is because of the year or because I ordered mine with a single sided guard and therefore it has to be on that side to keep the knife in.

I prolly shoulda mentioned that all the H.H. Heiser 'C' model sheaths, as well as the early Johnson Canteen snapped models were 'Spiltback' versions as well...:foot:
