Is there any difference in edge geometry between a model 16 diver and a model 14 with a sawtooth grind? I think I read somewhere that the diver has a thicker edge.

Probably not. That said, the #14 is ~1.250" from blade spine to edge; the #16 is ~1.125"...

ok, thanks. thinking about getting a diver for kayak camping. mainly for fire prep, light battoning. if I ordered one with an unsharpened swedge, the profile looks like it would fit the bill.

IMO, it's one of the most useful all-around designs Randall makes...real solid and useful for many tasks. Dunno why you'd order one with an unsharpened swedge though, unless restricted in your area; there's plenty of room for spine batoning, and you could always dull the swedge if you felt the need. Just seems that it would be easier to bring back an edge rather than put one on, if you decided later that you needed that extra cutting edge...

I dulled my model 14 also. It was super easy and I could easily bring it back if needed. Either way sounds like it's gonna be a user so I'm all for it :)

I don't know if I would actually dive with it or not. I have spydercos that reside on my dive gear now, and they are much cheaper to replace. It would be cool to use it for what it's made for though. Thanks for the replies!

I got one a few months back. It's a hoss of a knife and I think you'll be happy with it for what you have planned.
