Hi,,,does anyone have info on this knife???? I'm having a hard time figuring out if I have the Model #16 Fighter,,,,or Model #1 with the finger grip handle put on,,,,,same blade length, thickness, top cutting edge, etc., except for the difference in weight,,,,,,could even be a Model 14 with interchangable parts????

How can I be absolutely sure what it is I'm selling???? If a person has enuff money they can change anything they want????? I'm exhausted lookin,,,,and the more I look into it,,,,the more confused I get,,,,,,,help!!!!!

If the knife is 'Full Tang', where the handle material is channeled so you can see/feel the tang running the length of the knife (like a Model #14/15/16) then it's a #16-7 Special Fighter...

If you can't see the tang, it's probably a model #1...

Hope that helps,

Mel

Hi,,,,yes it has a full tang,,,fits thru the channel,,,,,,,so so does the Model 14 "attack",,,except the blade on the #14 is straight across the top,,,,and on the #16 there's a slight curve in front of the hilt...

Would u know the price range for the Special #1 Fighter , collector's price,,,,can't seem too pin it down..
and also,,,,,,,
do u know when Randall started stamping the "S" on his blades???

tanks..
(my son's a "tanker",,,he's in Iraq somewhere)??

Mona,

Yes, that would be a RMK model #16-7 'Special Fighter' that you're describing...

Working from memory here, IIRC, the #16-7 was introduced in 1978 as a 'non-catalog' model, but recently (2001?) became a regular cataloged knife....

There have been many 'S' stamps in various locations on the blade over the years, but your version will have the integrated stamp as introduced sometime around 1972.

If yours has a 'FL' stamp, as opposed to 'FLA' it was made after 1984...and if the sheath snaps have Randall Logo's, the knife was probably made after 1995...

The value of any RMK, on any given day depends on the Transaction Factor (TF) of the seller/buyer/planetary alignment...

The Current RMK catalog price for this knife (only available in SS) is $300. If it has a 'Single finger grip' or 'Border Patrol' style handle add roughly $10 more, Sawteeth $35 more...

On the spot market, depending on the condition being new, or near new, you 'may' be able to get 10% more +shipping, roughly $350...maybe (see 'TF' above) ;)

Hope that helps,

Mel

-edited to add- We hope your son makes it home safe, God bless!
