I have had my 7" SS model 18 for about 5 years now and I have never been able to figure out what the teeth on the spine of the blade are for exactly. They are linear, so they don't really function well as a saw. the only thing I can figure is for combat purposes only, possibly to rip on the way out. Can anyone tell me the purpose of these teeth please?

Saw teeth work well for cutting one out of a plane canopy or cutting the fuselage of the plane. At least that's what I've read about them.

Oh yeah now that you mention it, I have a friend who was a Army Ranger Officer in Vietnam, that has an original model #18 with a 5" carbon steel blade and he mentioned that they used to rescue crew members from downed choppers with their knives. That make sense to me now. Thank you for the info.
