I have a 112, but I always thought it was too big for EDC. Does anyone use the 55 in this manner? Thanks for the help.

Having been a knife carrier every day, everywhere, since childhood I never thought that I would see the day when I left home without a 110 on my belt.
Unfortunately, in these days of hightened public paranoia about anything sharp or pointed here in the UK, I often feel that to carry such a "business-like" knife might arouse unwanted interest.(*Especially whilst at work.. see below*) As a result I have recently taken to to one of the 110's little brothers in the form of a 501. This smaller knife tends not to get the "raised eyebrows" looks from folks that the 110 could often provoke, but stands in the 110's place very well. Being a solid knife with a good edge it does all I ask of it without being so small in the hand that it becomes fiddly to use.
As I have pretty big hands I am sure that I would not be comfortable using anything smaller, but can see no reason why the 55, with a blade only 3/8" smaller, should not suit someone with slightly smaller hands than mine just as well as the 501 does for me.
At the end of the day, your EDC has not only to meet your own needs and wants of a knife, but has to fit in with the surroundings and company you find yourself in on an everyday basis. I'm sure there are many of us who would love to keep a decent fixed blade to hand at all times, but modern environmental limitations rule this out. So, overall I'd say "Why not a 55 as an EDC? If it does all you need it to do (and it should.. it's a Buck!) it does all you need it to do!"

*Note from above* Those of you in the US who are involved in any way with Law Enforcement might be amazed to learn that even as a professional security officer, here in the UK I am not allowed to carry ANYTHING that might be seen as a weapon whilst on duty or off duty. As the law stands, I would be just as likely to spend the night in the cells with any felon I apprehended if the police arrived and saw that I was carrying "an offensive weapon" even if it had not come into play in the events leading to the police being called. There is no facility in the UK for the licencing of any means of even self preservation let alone a weapon of choice to use whilst dealing with any criminal (However armed) that I might come across in the course of my duties. The same applies to police officers other than their batons (and occasionally CS cannisters) unless specially trained and licenced to carry firearms for specific duties.

I've been toting my 55 for a couple months now. I love it. Very pocketable, has the "old school" feel I love, and it's a severe cutter. Absolutely great edge geometry.

Let the above be a dire warning to us in the U.S.A. !!!!
While I consiter my self to be a commiserative liberal I stand hard with the right wing on the rights of a law abiding citizen to be able to defend them selves and to carry weapons to accomplish that with if need be as every one is notable to master unarmed self-defense.

All of us need to let our elected persons know to cast votes as we need them to, to preserve our rights! This we must do from the local level clear to the highest.
